Women are increasingly breaking the glass ceiling in rural India.
From small supervisory jobs to political posts, village women are occupying more managerial positions than their urban counterparts, an analysis by India Today’s Data Intelligence Unit shows.
Sample this: Female representation in legislative, senior bureaucracy and managerial roles in villages accounts for 27.4 per cent compared to 19.7 per cent in urban areas, data reveal.
Also, woman managers in villages make up 21.4 per cent of the total workforce in such roles as against 16.4 per cent in cities/towns, according to the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey.
