It is better to not visit temples in India which are agamic, and have kodimaram and balipeetam, for one year. Certainly no archanai, vazhipaadus, etc praying for oneself and family. You may stop and pray to streetside Pillayar or at other such small shrines. I live broad and plan to visit my local temple (which has no kodimaram, and caters also to North Indians with marble vigrahams) after 45th day oonam for my mother, as I am on the managing committee and my presence is required. In general, modern purpose-built temples like the ones overseas are generally excluded from such considerations. As Gopalanji says, Smritimuktaphalam (SMP) is the one and only sastric guide for us in these matters, especially in the South Indian environment.
