What a ' Hug 'can do

The average length of a hug between two people is 3 seconds. But researchers have discovered something fantastic. When a hug lasts 20 seconds, there is a therapeutic effect on the body and mind. The reason is that a sincere hug produces a hormone called "oxytocin", also known as the love hormone.

This substance has many benefits in our physical and mental health, helps us, among other things, to relax, to feel safe and calm our fears and anxiety. This wonderful calming is offered free of charge every time we have a person in our arms, who cradled a child, we cherish a dog or cat, we're dancing with our partner, the closer we get to someone or just hold the shoulders of a friend

Hugging Indian Saint AMMA

Mata Amritanandamayi is known throughout the world as Amma, or Mother, for her selfless love and compassion toward all beings. Her entire life has been dedicated to alleviating the pain of the poor, and those suffering physically and emotionally.

Throughout her life, Amma has embraced and comforted more than 32 million people. Amma inspires, uplifts, and transforms through her physical embrace, her spiritual wisdom and through her global charities, known as Embracing the World.[SUP]®[/SUP] When asked where she gets the energy to help so many people, she answers: "Where there is true love, anything is effortless."

While Amma is widely regarded as one of India’s foremost spiritual leaders, Amma says that her religion is love. She has never asked anyone to change their religion but only to contemplate the essential principles of their own faith and to try to live accordingly.

You embrace a person is in anguish, pain or misery and your comforting hug will soothe the person..We also hug when we see a person after a long time..Like our classmate or friend after a long gap..Silver jubilee unions in professional colleges should have a flood of oxytocin, I guess! LOL!!

in north india hugging is a way of life. I am accused of practising it on the wrong people by my close relations. I hug first and talk later. I am butt of jokes due to this habit of mine. i am frequently warned by my wife to keep away when she introduces anyone to me

I feel that more than the physical connect, there has to be a mental connect in order for the hug to work. Simplay hugging for formality may not produce any results other than mere rubbing of bodies. It could be quite unpleasant if the other is sweating profusely or has an unpleasant body odour.

Of course, a hug, in our culture is an example of extreme intimate contact, and generally is not practised nor advised... It is safe to say "Namaskarams" or shake hands at the most.

Next perhaps, if a "study" were to come advocating that a liplock opens the gates of nectar in humans, we all would tend to go on a kissing spree, I should think!

who told you it is against our culture. you do not smell when you hug. only a few weeks back I hugged manish shisodia before delhi elections when I ran into him during my morning walk.we got friendly and had a chat . Try it you would forget hygyiene and make a lot of friends

Nobody, I just have not seen tambrams hugging each other when they meet. Sisters and brothers yes, and some very close relations. Otherwise no.

Perhaps what one could conclude from the above is that manish shisodia passed your "nostril tolerance test". It is not rational to say that hugs make one friendly. Thank you for the suggestion; I can even otherwise make a lot of friends.

It is interesting to see how people respond when you exhibit warmth while meeting someone. in north it is usual to find strangers greeting seniors with ""Ram Ram'' when meeting on the roads. Ialways hug seniors from second time I meet them.for others younger It is beta ,beti or bacha or bachi.I atleast put my arms around the shoulders of young men . caste ,creed or religion does not come ito it. the warm feelings it generates in them specially in middle class or poor neighbourhoods one should see to believe. I have a lot of friends in poorest sections of society. The flower seller opposite my flat acts as security for my flat when I diasappear on trips
outside my city. my toilet cleaner once carried me 500 yds physically in his arms whenI once got into a bad accident He put me into a vehicle and saved my life probably as I always regarded him as equal to me.one Auto richshaw fellow outside my home always stops and gives me a lift since I gave him 200 rs just like that in his hour of need and never asked for it again, If you do not think about your brahmin background and material wealth and learn to relate to less fortunate in life,a new world of humans opens to you who will reciprocate the warmth you exhibit

Heart warming experiences. Thanks for sharing.

When in Rome, do as the Roman do...The people are generally reserved in Chennai..Hugging is not common...It is restricted to Nalla Irukkengala....If you do with a male in Chennai on Chennai roads you will be construed as a Homo..The entire street will turn towards you
