What factors do you need to consider yourself 'successful'?

Hare Krishna
Namaste,

This is just a 'for fun' thread, as everyone's needs and wants differs. Herein I list a few factors that I consider most important to consider myself successful, after careful thought:

i) A strong personality free from jealousy, and hankerings of all kinds.

ii) A good spouse who will be 'your best friend'.

iii) Ability to occupy yourself fruitfully, both in the household and in the society.

iv) Reasonable amount of wealth and health.

Only the above seem most important to me, after observing 'successful people'. So success is not afterall, a by-product of (lots of) income, education, profession, status, or looks.

What do you feel are most important factors for feeling successful? :first:

Dear JR,

I have never thought of this..I never considered myself a success or a failure.

Life just goes on I feel.

Ups and downs are part and parcel of life.

now let me answer each and every question of yours ( my answers in blue)

i) A strong personality free from jealousy, and hankerings of all kinds.

Well this for me its a tough question..cos I have no idea what my real personality is..there are times I can very strong and there a times when I can be weak too..and I can scream the roof down if I see a cockroach!LOL

ii) A good spouse who will be 'your best friend'.

This is again a tough question..a spouse is a spouse..unless we compare him/her with another only then we know if he/she is good or bad.

But current law does not permit polygamy/polyandry..so we might not know if better spouses or worse spouses are around!LOL

iii) Ability to occupy yourself fruitfully, both in the household and in the society.

Well at home I am myself...society I dont know cos I dont like socializing.

Profession is just to generate income..I dont get too involved in it.

iv) Reasonable amount of wealth and health.

This is also a hard question..money comes..money goes..alive today..dead tomorrow.

So my final diagnosis is.. success or failure is man made. The true self does not undergo any change.

Live life without harming anyone and love yourself.

Just for fun: what is a reasonable amount for # 4?

Biswa ji,

Reasonable wealth - For example, I live in a 1500 sq.ft house, I am not hankering for a larger home, I am happy with where I am, even if it were to be the same for the rest of my life! That is, be 'comfortable' in your own living, but you need not be rich to undertake world tours, cruise ships or anything extravagant!

Reasonable health - You may have minor complaints (like my not-so-bothersome Arthritis of the left knee) (and I've also had depression) but otherwise are healthy to live life to the fullest!
