What keeps you going

What keeps you going ? What motivates you to perform and achieve? And how do you cope up with failure and fear of failure?
There are many successful people in this forum and it will be good to hear from you all.

What keeps me going is the enjoyment that I am able to derive from what I am doing. You will get enjoyment in what you are doing if you are working for a noble cause. A cause is noble if it can also benefit a number of other people than yourself. In such a case there is no fear of failure because that fear comes when you want success only for personal benefits.

Dear Asault,

Didnt I tell you Have Gun will Travel!LOL

Ok now coming to your question.

1)What keeps me going?

Kartavyam(Obligation)

Everyone has a Kartvayam..an obligation..its just that no one sings a Suprabhatam to remind us to do our Kartavyam..only Lord Rama had a Suprabhatam when He was woken up for His Kartavyam as in

Kowsalya supraja Rama poorva sandhya pravarthathe
Uthishta narasardoola karthavyam daivamahnikam

2)What motivates me to preform and achieve?

Once we take everything as an obligation and duty we go into auto pilot mode and go about with daily work.

3)How do I cope with failure?

Ok I have never had academic failure in my life. I have no idea how that feels...but there are some other aspects of life that I and some of us would have "failed"..then I realized that we call it a Failure cos we judge ourselves too harshly and stopped trying... anything only becomes a failure if we stop trying..if something does not work out for us choose another alternative...that way Failure can never exist.

BTW why dont you add another Question..How Do You Cope With Success?Cos most people fail miserably in coping with success especially when it gets to their head.

Sir,

Thirst for knowledge keeps me going. I learn a lot and need to learn more.

I do admire the style of presentation of some of the Members and rebuttals.

It keeps me busy and I have the satisfaction of spending time usefully by learning something every time when I log in.

I learn through my failures, but don’t have fear.

Regards

Thanks all for answering. "Kartavyam" and obligation - heard for the first time when people usually talks about duty, action, proactive. Knowledge and enjoyment are also imp factors.

And how do we cope up with " Not trying enough" ? Contentment is one thing, but its wrong to be content without trying and being lazy. ( i often go through this even now)

Dear Sir,

Being contented is not being lazy..being contented is doing your duty right and accepting the outcome without resorting to any Adharmic means to sustain it.

After many years most of us go into auto pilot mode and might actually feel that we are lazy but in reality we are still actually doing our duty in life. But there is something that most people will not say they are lazy! read below for answer.

Sometimes I wish the Yaksha had asked Yudhisthira this question:

Yaksha: Humans can feel lazy when preforming duties but what is it that humans will never cease to do?

Yudhisthira:Gunning it!LOL

May be in my free time I might want to rewrite the whole Yaksha Yudhi episode in a humorous manner and will post it in Forum!

One goes thru work life believing in honesty ,duty concepts. at the end of it all, I think a little bit dishonesty and some direliction of duty should be acceptable to make living more happy. You have to live in this material world with minimum self inflicted pain practising these concepts involve . if you live with total dishonest people and govt. ,you need not be a harishchandra.Carrying out duties towards others is not yr. responsibility alone. there is reciprocity in every relationship.Wisdom lies in careful choice of duties and learning when to withdraw from doing your duties.
as a senior citizen I feel I should keep myself totally busy doing what I have not been able to do a lifetime. First the materialistic part-fast multiplication of wealth with risk if need be. second see all parts of the world which you could not do. third see all the famous temples, mosques ,churches as a matter of curiosity if not belief. fourth read a few good books. fifth enjoy music during music season . six get involved in social causes which you believe in . seventh what I am doing now blogging in various forums

1. What keeps you going?

I know I am not doing anything to keep going .. the heart beats, the blood circulates, breathing happens etc all without my explicit permission or desire to do so. I think the question may have to do with how I 'keep going in an environment of fear, failure, success etc. Let me answer that down below

2. What motivates you to perform and achieve?

In my experience motivation comes when one has a clearly defined purpose for life. What should be the purpose for life - another topic for perhaps another thread :-) - Having said this at this point I do not do anything (but doing happens), I have no plan (but planning happens) and I accept the way I am fully with all the flaws of body and mind.

3. How do you cope up with failure and fear of failure?

There are no failures or success in my understanding at this point (and I am not retired or anything) . There are only teachings of nature based on outcome which may or may not align with my initial thinking

Not sure I feel I am successful or a failure since in my thinking they do not apply to anyone including me.
