Where to search for Happiness

Recently i read this short story which i liked it very much, wish to share with you all

Once a group of 50 people was attending a seminar.Suddenly the speaker stopped and started giving each one a balloon. Each one was asked to write his/her name on it using a marker pen. Then all the balloons were collected and put in another room.

Now these delegates were let in that room and asked to find the balloon which had their name written, within 5 minutes. Everyone was frantically searching for their name, colliding with eachother, pushing a
round others and there was utter chaos. At the end of 5 minutes no one could find their own balloon.

Now each one was asked to randomaly select a balloon and give it to the person whose name was written on it.Within minutes everyone had their own balloon.

The speaker began--- This is exactly what's happening in our lives. Everyone is frantically looking for happiness all around, not knowing where it is.

Our happiness lies in the happiness of other people...Give them their happiness and you will get your own happiness.

And this is the purpose of human life.

Is this not what we are all looking for?

Our happiness lies in the happiness of other people...Give them their happiness and you will get your own happiness.

Are you sure?

Don't listen to these other posters please. They don't understand. If you don't stand up to people, they will walk all over you.
Your happiness lies in the the fact that your enemies are suffering.
Look at Alexander, Napoleon, Chandragupta Maurya, or Ashoke.
These pacifist comments are for sissies, who could not buy happiness at any cost. I am in the stock market, I buy when there is misery in the market, that brings my cost down. So I am happy when there is panic and sellers are unhappy getting killed. (metaphorically). I agree I would be unhappy to see my friends getting killed, but that is what is market.

Coming to the serious side of the discussion.

Brahmacharini Sumati Chaitanya traced the cause of unhappiness to ignorance of ones own nature. Out of ignorance (avidya) moha is born and from moha is born raga (dweshaa). From raga(dweshaa), dharma- adhrama is born and this dharma-adhrama causes sukha-dukha. She said scriptures say that you are Tat-Twam-Asi meaning you are the Truth (Nitya Suddha) incapable of becoming asuddha.

Your true nature is SAT-CHIT-ANANDH, realize your true nature and you are Happiness.

A combination of three Sanskrit words, Sat, Chit, and Ānanda— meaning existence, consciousness, and bliss. Sat Chit Ananda is the pure, undifferentiated state of non-duality. It is the most perfect expression of our primordial Self. which is energetically inseparable from the power of Love creating the universe. To reside in this state is the experience of pure Bliss, the essence of Life Itself.

Ananda is that bliss which is eternal, uncaused and unexcelled. It is the real nature of Atman. The pleasure derived from objects such as flowers, scents, woman, fruits, sweetmeats and others is temporary and subject to Upadhi or vehicle and degree and so it cannot be called the bliss of Atman. We experience the bliss of Atman every day in deep sleep. It is not mere absence of pain that we experience there. It is undoubtedly positive happiness, for we remember on waking up that we slept happily. This indicates the fact of the existence of bliss to Atman in that state.

In either case Happiness does not lie in happiness of others.

on a lighter note , be a Bear instead of a Bull in the market and take contrarian calls also. It will restore tha balance and salvage your conscience
Ifound your post interesting. and happiness being derived out of sat, chit self love and ananda out of love of good things in life. it is in conflict with indian notions of giving to others to making them happy and find happiness as consequence of such actions.even christianity talks of giving -give and God shall provide.and you will realise god. we glorify giving and sacrifice for others happiness. in the world of materialism, your thoughts will strike a responsive chord. Happy hunting in the share market. yuan is getting speculative . any ideas?

I am not writing about business strategies. In our family life:
One needs a good heart to be happy when our near and dear ones are happy! :grouphug:

Envy is there is every family and we know songs like 'aNNan ennadA thambi ennadA avasaramAna ulaginilE'!

Most of the people are selfish and in my experience, I find only one among the siblings in any family, the real well wisher of others!

So, we can be happy if we learn to be happy when our near and dear ones are happy - not merely in words but right at heart!

happiness has to find a slot in your channel hopping. ( assume u r watching a tv channel, politics or sports, always and another channel, say history, economics or culture wants to compete with it! )

There is only one way to happiness and
that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.

new happiness channel has to find a slot in your already happy channel hopping... is what i meant:violin:

OMG I would have never participated in this balloon finding etc..I am scared of balloons!

BTW why do we need to search for happiness? Happiness is a Bhava..a feeling.

Either we feel it or we dont.

Actually I do not think its humanly possible to be 24/7 happy..moods do change.... and droplets of sorrow from time to time is inevitable.

Without sorrow we can never appreciate happiness.

Its a mad mad world BTW...Some people are more schizophrenic than others that's all!

IN most indian homes members fight for their favourite channels in prime time.in unhappiness of the loser lies the happiness of the winner getting channel of his/her choice. LOL

..... let us cry our hearts out watching tamil TV soaps.after this deluge of tears we shall be happy afterwards.
An easier solution will be NOT to see the soaps.

BTW, do you know that we should never sit on the left side of a person who weeps

OR on the right side of a person who sews with a needle??

HMM.. one neurologist at a concluding remark in a clinical neurology conference said most of us hallucinate.... dont know what he means..most surgeons tend to think 'some people are more anxious than others thats all'

a psychiatrist doing biochemistry research part time, will probably think he might get diabetes when he starts to hallucinate, because he found a link between schizophrenia gene and diabetes gene in a research article.

..wonder what a neurosurgeon will think, will probably think some people have bigger amygdala than others thats all .... like shown on BIG BANG THEORY serial on STAR-WORLD.

some one in VAIDEEGAM will probably say " some people eat more tharpanam sappadu than others thats all !"

BTW,

magic balloons

SAYS an advert on a wall in Chennai.

it was a compound wall around an un-built area, wonder what that means?

When we are without any bond we will not worry about ourselves! We will then work for others..Whatever simple steps that we take to remove pain of others results in others getting happy which in turn will make us happy! This is self less service!

Among other things, imo most of us can also find happiness in this very same forum….. need not go for a search …..just go through threads posted in different sections……viz. Music and Dance, Religion, Philosophy, Chit Chat, Share your knowledge and above all favorite General Discussion, etc etc.

This Forum provides variety and wealth of information to everyone’s choice to enjoy and to have fun, etc according to one's taste, interest, knowledge, etc

I take this opportunity to thank Praveen Ji for the same.

Ganesh ji
we have our bonds . as we go thru life we get into relationships with more people and increase our circle and tighten our bonds with more people

freeing from bonds is a myth and not worth trying for.
we can relate meaningfully with more and care for their feelings and aspirations. hopefully some will reciprocate leading to some fine feelings and moments of happiness
