Prof M.N.Srinivas an eminent sociologist has staed that there are 4000 jatis in India..This includes about 1000 jatis among Christians & Muslims...Each of these jatis is a minority as per my understanding..Religion can never be a basis for classifying them..Many jatis are getting extinct and some including our TB brethren are on the verge of extinction..However this may be opposed by some on account of vote bank politics..For them it helps them to reap electoral dividends by such a divisive classification

We are a nation of minorities.

We are a nation of minorities.
Be a minority and claim all privileges from the govt.

It is wonderful to be classified as a minority waiting for extinction.

we will get protection and given special homeland .

learn from the jews .

brahmiland is not far away.

Immediate benefit will be a quota in jobs, college admissions, promotions etc., etc.,

There are more than 1000 divisions/branches in brahmin community also and particularly we tamil brahmins are only a few lakhs.Even if there are oppositions due to vote bank politics, why should not we also claim for minority status. If we are united we will also get it done. Who is to bell the cat?

Why do majorities do not bother about politicians or political parties who are focussed too much on minorities.. does that not give majority people a push to vote against them?

We are all minority of one. We all are individual. No one is identical to another. You should claim all and any privilege we can garner. Unfortunately you need a group to claim vote bank. Only vote bank gets privileges.

Everyone is unique and hence the notion of privileges for minority status based on numbers alone is not meaningful.
A privilege can only be extended if such a privilege benefits *everyone* directly or indirectly.

Countries and enterprises that embrace diversity has the maximum chance to succeed in today's competitive world of information powered by internet.

So embracing diversity will mean creating a system of government that offers the best chance for equal opportunity for all.

Striving to provide equal opportunity for all does not mean allocation of quota and entitlement for any minority group which can only create losers out of everyone. Here I am not interested in talking about vote-bank driven policies of a corrupt enterprise or government.

As an example, striving to provide equal opportunity means identification of talent wherever it may reside. It also mean finding ways to educate the unorganized sector and set up competitive examination to search for talent in various categories that does not create undue advantage to someone who is educated in the organized sector.

If people could value commitment to excellence, equal opportunity for all and embracing of diversity, the problems of today can be easily overcome.

Recently I was at someone's house and saw part of a delightful movie playing in their TV. I myself do not watch movies but this one was very interesting. It is based on a true story of how two village youths were identified across India that ended up joining the major league baseball team in USA (Pittsburgh) within 10 months of being found. They did not even play cricket, were not sportsmen and yet had tremendous power to their pitch.

They went to USA without knowing how to even speak English or know the rules of the baseball game. They overcame many hurdles to actually being recruited to major league team and needless to say achieving millions of dollars to their net worth.

Movie is called Million Dollar Arm.

These two youths were identified by proactive efforts to reach them. While the idea for such a search was more of a stunt, it did yield extraordinary talent in a very short time.

We need to abolish the notion of minority based quota and instead embrace equal opportunity for all which will benefit everyone.
