Why a person in Bhakthi/Yoga end up in more trouble? How to get past the troubles?

We come across many spiritual people in life who complain that despite regular pooja, temple visits and other spiritual stuff, they get more trouble. Why this?

We can logically answer them
1.We can ask them to look at all the probably solutions and work on the best possible solution with the available resources.
2.We can tell that “This problem is nothing compared to others”
etc etc.,

A good question indeed? Let us approach from another angle.

In my first 3 years in spiritual journey, I used to ask the same question to myself. People who are not doing “Penance/Meditation” appear to be happy but I am “Spiritual??..(ok ok No hard feelings!)” but I get more problems. Even managing my life everyday became a difficult task.

I would like to quote Saint Thiruvalluvar here. The rough translation of Athikaram “Penance” Kural No.267 goes as

“With the fining fire, just as gold shines brighter, a person doing penance will shine brighter who have endured the burning of pain”

He means that the person doing penance will be put to test so that he shines brighter.

For me, I have broken the way I tackled it in 3 parts.

Initial Stages:

Despite the problems, I continued meditating. Meditation gave me a state of mind to accept the reality as it. See the problem with clarity. I found the solution with that clarity.

Later Stages:

I understood that all the problems are related to the mind. Every mind has a pattern and once we observe the pattern in which it works, it can be easily crossed. Once I land into a problem, I crossed the “Mind’s movement in the Problem” and moved towards the solution piece straight with absolute clarity. Once the focus shifts, the solution presents itself.

Now:

When I get a problem which I could never manage, I can see “his helping hand”. Thanks God.

“Where there is no mind there is no problem”.

I can now understand that God is both the problem creator and solver. He gives us the problems so that we can learn from the problems and move beyond the net of mind.

By his grace, all the problems fade away easily.

Suggestion:

My suggestion to all Bhaktas or Yogi’s is to keep practicing whatever religious practices you do. Never stop practicing. The solution will present itself automatically.

To me, it is not the problem which matters. It is the state of mind and clarity in which we are matters.

If the problem is too big, wait for “God’s helping hand”.

I appreciate the depth of knowledge in Bakthi/Yoga shared.
Enlightenment of mind is much more important to deal with any situation. Ignorance will lead to misery.
Whatever path we adopt, we need the attainment of enlightenment. There are other multiple factors that decide the fate of a person. So its not easy to define it.
Life is very much complicated and complexity.

We come across many spiritual people in life who complain that despite regular pooja, temple visits and other spiritual stuff, they get more trouble. Why this?

Frankly speaking most people face similar amount of problems whether they pray or not but its just becos those who pray have a greater expectation from God and when results dont show they feel that their trouble is relatively worse than another person.

For those who dont depend too much on prayer.. they rely on themselves and face the troubles by looking for solutions instead of lamenting..somehow they are able to solve the problem and their problem looks relatively less severe than a person who prays.

I dont really believe in the so called concept of God testing His devotees cos God does not micromanage....our life has been determined by our Karma and it goes along those lines..the question paper of our life has been set by our past actions....we are the ones who actually test ourselves but somehow the blame went to God!LOL

BTW the fault also lies in the Bhakta who prays with expectation and expects God to come "running" to them like Vishnu and Gajendra when faced with the crocodile called life.

When we pray for the sake of God and do not ask this or that or have any expectations we accept every happening in life good or bad as our Karma and sail thru it without feeling that we are suffering.

BTW most people who actually claim to be spiritual might actually just be people with unmet desires who are always desiring something from God and spend more time in temple grounds actually praying for material comforts.

Cut off our desires and we can see how problems that once were thought to be problems actually cease to trouble us.

We only call it a problem when we let it trouble us..if we face it..we call it a passing phase.

Dear Srimadhan Sir,

Your post made interesting reading. Really it sets us thinking and sets off many more questions.

There also arises a counter question "Why not a person in Bhakthi/Yoga end up in more trouble? Why to get past the troubles and Why not pass through the trouble?"

In my humble opinion sir, as long as we live in this world, regardless of whether we are spiritual or material, whether we are pious or non-pious, whether we are virtuous or wicked, everyone has to pass through trouble, adversity etc.

I would say, only the spiritual or religious pass through more such trouble than the others sir, coz the world is materialistic and those who are clever, cunning get through. It is indeed a challenge to live honestly, faithfully, virtuously in this world which is filled with crooked and perverted people. But the good news is there are also good people, virtuous who can help the needy, downtrodden, troubled, distressed.

History has taught us Good always triumphs over evil. The world wars and numerous other disturbances the world over has always resulted in victory for the good. Faith, Hope and Trust in God will always help us through.

Life is never a bed of roses especially for the righteous.
