If we worship because we want health, wealth, wisdom etc, then whom we call God is a vendor. It is tamasic bhakti.

If we worship because we have extreme love and affection on a specific image or form, then whom we call God is another bonding/attachment. It is rajasic bhakti.

If we worship because we want to develop detachment that helps broaden our perspectives, learn to live our lives better, evolve better, then God is a self-realization tool. It is sattvic bhakti. This bhakti leads to jnana or self-realization.


ofcourse everyone wants something in their life depending on the stage they are in. So none of these good or bad.
