To All,

Why are we grinding on the same old topics? Why aren't we talking about fixing the issues?

70% of Brahmins are atheists or non-practitioners these days. All those (any-caste) who would not perform vaidika karma (in contact with idols) or seek Brahma-gnyAnam now or in the near future, can help clean up India. India desperately needs volunteers to educate, police the masses and clean-up the the garbage [not just s**t, but e-waste, river-pollution).

Being a forum of intelligent people, you guys should come up with solutions. Do, we have any NGO to provide such education, and other solutions to this perennial problem?

For the sake of bringing life to the ancient Punya-bhumya, we shoud educate the masses on eating less and small, required portions of food, so they can produce less dump. And every public toileter, should compost their own dump! Ban all road-side food stalls, fast-food shops. No food can be eaten on the roads, and heavily fine the littering idiot [like in US].

I hear one toilet-cleaner saying, "these dumb women eat 4-5 idilis for 5Rs. and will dump only on the road-side, not in the flushable ones". Why are the educated, elite people silent on Hygiene and Discipline???

Also, One only needs a 10z of rice/beans/veggies twice a day and 2 8oz of milk, no need of any fruits. If those limited items are harvested, we could feed whole India easily. Why are so much other junkies made/produced and make India unhealthy and sick? Why invest in healthcare, research fighting diseases?

Why would people need more money than that money for food, simple education and few bills (electricity etc.) and a small home. Why are Indians greedy for money and want to show of money and create competitions?

Why is life not so simple?

Dear Shri Govinda,

When you state brazenly "70% of Brahmins are atheists or non-practitioners these days. All those (any-caste) who would not perform vaidika karma (in contact with idols) or seek Brahma-gnyAnam now or in the near future, can help clean up India. India desperately needs volunteers to educate, police the masses and clean-up the the garbage [not just s**t, but e-waste, river-pollution).", I sense that you consider that the theist, practicing brahmins as also people of othercastes who perform vaidika karma in contact with idols and all people who claim that they are on their path to Brahmajnaanam, are all exempt, according to your 'Dharmasastra' from the task of "help clean up India"! ;)

As an agnostic tabra who does not perform any vaidika karma and also does not claim to be on the path to Brahmajnaanam myself, I sincerely feel that all the mess in India is created by the very people whom your edict exempts. Hence, it can be better interpreted as follows: Your exempted categories will be the new brahmins of the country, call them Govinda Brahmins who will continue the ancient task of polluting the rivers and make as much muck as possible, and the rest (your 'target population'), will be the new Govinda scavengers!!

Nice idea, you should be getting at least a Bharat Ratna next R.Day!!

Regarding junky foods, greed and ostentation, I am of the considered view that much of our upanishads wanted to emphasize the virtues of a simple life, but unfortunately, the composers of the upanishads were so much overconcerned with that elusive "Brahmam" and "Brahmajnaanam" concepts, that their emphasis got warped. Today, however, the western (and most importantly the US) influence in Indian life style is so pronounced that the materialistic life has become the be all and end all. It is difficult to change this trend when even the Indian Gurus and godmen love the luxurious western life styles and millions of Indians adore them as God.

Why is life not so simple?

Ever since people lost their power to
distinguish their NEED for their GREED
life has become more and more complicated!!!
It is like saying,
"I can forgo my necessities but I won't
compromise on my luxuries!!"

MINIMIZE YOUR NEEDS!

Atman is pure knowledge and bliss, but it can function only through a body!
To get out of the karma, the endless cycle of births and deaths and attain liberation, Atman has to do sAdhanA through a body.

So everyone of us mus take adequate care of our physical body. It is the living temple of the God within. To keep the body and soul together, we need certain bare necessities in life.

We don’t have to make the list of our requirements a very long one! The more the number of things we depend on for our happiness, the more bonded we become. The more things we willingly give up, the more liberated we become.

When the firm, clean ground is a good enough bed, why do we go for cots and super comfort beds?

When our arms can serve well as warm pillows , why do we go for sponge pillows?

When raw fruit and a simple meal is enough to sustain us, why do we go in search of fancy food, with fancy names and fancy tastes and flavors?

When the simple cotton clothes are enough for our modesty, why do we go for silk and brocade dresses?

When a hearty smile is enough to light up the face and make it beautiful, why do we buy jewels made of gold, platinum and diamonds?

When a small clean house is enough to live in, why do we build sprawling houses?

Even after amassing enough wealth to last for 7 generations, why do we still run after money all the time?

When the public transports are good enough for our travel, why do we need A.C cars?

All the other creatures depend on nature to provide for their needs. Only man has an insatiable desire for everything in life and loses his equanimity, peace of mind and ruins his precious health.

Minimize your needs! Maximize your services rendered to the others. A selfish man is never really happy and a selfless-man is never really sad.

[h=1]வணங்கா முடிகள்.[/h]
திருமணம் செய்து கொள்ளாது இருந்தனர்;

ATMA BALAM.

When certain temple priests were bachelors they refused to go to the palace to meet the King. They always made the king come to them, for anything he or they might need. They were rich in Atma Balam and so the King did not mind visiting them.

But once they got married and begot children, they started making a bee line to the palace for any puny reason – so that they will get extra DhakshinA from the king to meet their ever growing expenditure.

The King felt amused to watch them, wondering how much the grahastAs differed from the brahmachAris!

The sanitary napkin is a must for women folk. The famous writer Sri. Sujatha once wrote that SingArach Chennai reminds

him of 'beach walkers' and road sides littered with sanitary pads! Now, the children are supposed to use diapers upto the age

of three! These diapers are NOT eco friendly and will not perish because of the absorbent materials used. One of my cousins

told me that her grand kids go to a play school, where diapers are NOT allowed. They do not visit the toilet room at school.

As soon as they return form school, they hurriedly wear the diapers to go '1' and '2'! She also told me that her daughter spent

nearly Rs. 3 lakhs just on diapers for her twin kids in the last two years!

Friends! What do you say?

[/QUOTE]

Dear VR ji,

Never ever use the arm as a pillow.

It is one of the major causes for nerve compression and can lead to lack of sensation and temporary paralysis of the arm.

Diabetics should never use the arm as a pillow cos the weight of our head will compress blood vessels and cause decrease blood supply to fingers.

One can sleep without a pillow but never use the arm as a pillow.

I stand corrected dear Renu!
These ideas are from a spiritual book
by Saint. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.
The main point stressed here is that
we must manage with what we have
instead of chasing and running behind
comforts and luxuries all our lives!

The saints can say anything to tame our minds! But most of their advice can not be followed by normal humans.

How many of us can sleep just on the floor - that too without a pillow, eat only raw veg and fruits, wear only simple dress

with no gold jewelry? :noidea:

Dear VR ji,

I don't wear gold...I love eating raw vegetables more than cooked ones..I love fruits better than anything else..cos it is healthier and no need to spend time cooking.
I don't like pillows...but I sleep on a bed no doubt.
I like to wear nice clothings but not silk.

So only 2 points I lose out.!!..sleeping on bed and wearing nice clothes.

So not bad..I can become a Mataji soon!LOL

We can have anything that we can afford and enjoy life. But, the desires should not be such fixated that the person feel depressed and become bitter for not getting everything he/she desires. People can strive for better but should not starve for its lack at the moment.

Think of it this way.

why not 2 become 1 or
even 3 become 1???
Got it my dear??? :)

Dear Sis,

I don't know whether you read this post!

:horn:

Some people LIE awake for the stroke of four (A.M!!!) for drinking coffee!! :faint:

Some people LIE awake for the stroke of four (A.M!!!) for drinking coffee!! :faint:

They may be coffee addicts.

It takes 3 glasses of water to drain away that caffeine from the brain (but never from body). Also, it takes 6 hrs for caffeine to wean away naturally.
So, if people drink before bed-time, they are awake for early coffee.

So, I quit coffee.

I can't watch movies at all, and never in theaters. I dont watch TV. We as society should get rid of these ;)

I use internet for e-books, documentaries on Youtube/videos. I have real books ;)

Well said. But, We need to check office emails or production jobs at home, sometimes. So, we need them.

Plus, if we can share our knowledge, we should participate in forums. Plus, there is so mcuh resource in the internet these days.

But, we should make it a point to spend some fixed, effective time.
