Why we need to avoid processed foods

Processed meat and 'early death'

Sausages, ham, bacon and other processed meats appear to increase the risk of dying young, a study of half a million people across Europe suggests.

It concluded diets high in processed meats were linked to cardiovascular disease, cancer and early deaths.

The researchers, writing in the journal BMC Medicine, said salt and chemicals used to preserve the meat may damage health.

The study followed people from 10 European countries for nearly 13 years on average.

It showed people who ate a lot of processed meat were also more likely to smoke, be obese and have other behaviours known to damage health. However, the researchers said even after those risk factors were accounted for, processed meat still damaged health.

I will not be able to eat tonight - if I remember the video footage!

This is an eye opener for those lazy people

who buy, store, heat and gulp ready-made-food!

I will do propaganda against processed food :director:

wherever I find someone attached to it.

The popular saying is

"ஒரு ஜாண் வயிறே இல்லாட்டா
இந்த உலகத்தில் எது கலாட்டா ?"

My observation is

ஒரு ஜாண் வயிற்றுகுள்ளேயே
இத்தனை கலாட்டாவா முருகா!

சரியான grinding /washing machine தோற்றது! :bolt:

ஓயாமல் அரைத்துக் கொண்டே இருக்கிறது! :ballchain:

Do people gobble up food without chewing? :noidea:

When food is highly processed, eating such food is like eating koozh (கூழ்). Do you ever chew கூழ் ?
In fact, such foods, including overcooked grains, spike the carbohydrate level and hence
glucose level with attendant spike in insulin levels, a factor especially of relevance for people with diabetes.

I can now understand why my grandmother always got upset when, due to excess water, சாதம் became கூழ்!
She will lament
ஐயோ சாதம் குழைஞ்சு போச்சுடீ!

Dear Nanina Sir,

Then why in the video does the noodle pieces move like wriggling worms which are not like koozh??

P.S: With such big fonts, your grandmother would have SEEN your post from heaven! ;)

Read this to change your view dear Sis!

Tasty Jail Food

I don't think I can ever again eat semia or sevai
without shuddering first! :fear:
may be we too need to gobble up some grinding stones
as the birds do to aid digestion! :)

Dear Nanina Sir,

In a wave-like movement, called peristalsis, muscles propel food along the digestive tract. There are several steps in the process of moving food through the digestive system.

The movement of food through the digestive tract is controlled by voluntary and involuntary movement of the muscles under the control of the neuro-endocrine system.

1. The first major muscle movement is swallowing food. The start of swallowing is voluntary, but once it begins, the process becomes involuntary and continues under the control of the nerves.
2. The esophagus, which connects the throat above with the stomach below, is the first organ into which the swallowed food goes.
3. Where the esophagus and stomach join, there is a ring-like valve that closes the passage between the two organs. When food nears the closed ring, the surrounding muscles relax and allow the food to pass into the stomach, and then it closes again.
4. The food then enters the stomach, which completes three mechanical tasks: storing, mixing, and emptying.
Koozh implies a step closer to full digestion. So, if a food is not koozh, the muscles continue to churn until the food is digested.
