I saw the video - shocking & disturbing. Pls put a caution as somebody may be rattled by the raw footage.

We might as well be heading towards anarchy,I.e., if we are not already.

Sir,

The moral of the incident is don't use ATM which does not have a couple of people waiting.

As for the Guard, most of the Guards employed in the ATMs are only retired persons who are physically very weak, not trained to meet any emeregency situation and are without arms, but in uniform. What kind of protection one can expect from these aged, weak, untrained, armless Guards?

With regards

All ATM's should have mandatory security..Fortunately we came to know about the attack through the CCTV recordings...Again CCTV is not mandatory..Some banks have it..Others not implemented..Really pathetic..There should be strong ATM guidelines by RBI

The video is very disturbing. This can happen to even men folk. RBI can enforce use of metal detectors and should not allow bags inside.

The bags should be taken care of by the security. This will at least prevent such incidents inside the closed shutters.

In a small town in italy, had the following experience. The gate wouldn't open and I did not understand the instructions. I stepped aside and allowed the next customer to enter to learn the process.

I had to stand in front of the gate for the teller to see me, had to keep my briefcase in a locker (or open shelf), lift my hands up as in security check. The lady teller then opened the door. Only one customer at a time.

As per latest NDTV inputs the woman, who was attacked yesterday, has suffered a fracture in her skull and may be paralysed for months, say doctors. The woman had brain surgery last night. No arrests have been made in the incident....

Really sad that our police is incompetent to catch the culprit red handed!

shocking

the police wanted cctv to be installed and that is done

the cctv clearly identifies the culprit

still no head way

nowour police will want a computer chip gprs to be inserted in every human being to track
i suggest

can we entrust the work to Superstar robo Rajani or vishwaroobam Kamala hasan

sathyanarayanan

The deliberate and cold manner in which the criminal was attacking and how he arranged his items in his own bag suggests that he has executed many violent crimes successfully. It is clear he knows his face is being captured by the camera and he may be wearing a disguise.

With corrupt and incompetent systems everywhere such events will only increase. There is a need for vigilante groups to be formed in every corner of the country.

They could pose as a potential victim and lead a criminal to his action. And provide just response then and there with violence. Imagine a group planning to attack or rape and being replied back in swift action.

Yes, this is not a good solution for any country. But when there is rampant incompetence, lack of accountability and wholesale corruption there are not many avenues open.

The TV channels showed the details of the crime committed at the Bangalore ATM repeatedly and it seems to have given the idea to others!

The above robbery is not at an ATM! Read this:

"Police said P Gomathi was alone in the outlet run by the Kancheepuram Cooperative Society on Vembuliamman Koil Street at 4.30pm when

the men entered and downed the shutters. She had just returned to the shop after having tea at a nearby kiosk. "

It is surprising how CCTV footage were available to visual media much earlier than the authorities. The reaction of Police is still more surprising. The City Police Commissioner issued a magisterial order to the Banks to appoint 24 hour guards within 3 days time otherwise close down the ATM Kiosks . On Monday the Police pulled down the shutters of 1134 unguarded ATM kiosks . Very fast action indeed. But the cure seems to be worse than the disease, it is like proverbial "cutting the nose for cold". The Police authorities very well know that appointing additional guards cannot be done within three days. Banks have to follow certain procedures for any appointment involving additional expenditure. Instead Police could have helped the Banks to guard the ATM booths till guards were appointed. Further function of 24 hours is not necessary in all ATMs. It can be restricted to ATMs nearer to places like Hospitals, Railway Stations and Malls.

Number of ATMs can be reduced by optimum utilisation ATMs by the inter-bank ATM networks facility. This facilitate the use of ATM cards of one bank at the ATM(s) of other banks for basic services like cash withdrawal and balance enquiry. Banks owning the ATMs charge a fee for providing the ATM facility to the customers of other banks.

I feel that this case was botched up from the beginning. The repeated telecast of the actual incident of robbery on the TV channels must have alerted the culprit who bolted away. Had it been kept a secret, the police could have perhaps caught him by now.

We do not seem to have learnt the lessons from the Mumbai attack five years ago when TV channels were broadcasting every move of the police/security force and the handlers watching our TV channels planned the moves accordingly and advised the terrorists. While the police should try to nab the robber, they should also investigate as to how the video that is a private property was leaked and punish those responsible.
