[h=1]World Bank ranks Gujarat as most investor-friendly State[/h]Gujarat has come out on top in the World Bank’s first ever ranking of States on the ease of doing business in India.

States were assessed on the implementation, over a six-month period from January to June, of a 98-point reforms agenda.

Chief Secretaries of States participating in the “Make in India” workshop inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi last December finalised this action plan on “Ease of Doing Business”.

It was decided later to evaluate States to assess progress by June 2015.

World bank knows which side of the bread is buttered. If they do not include BJP ruled states in top five or six, they would be shown the door.

let the congress come to power at the centre , the list will be upside down.....lol

I agree! World Bank ranking will not be any guide to the SME, but only to the global MNCs which will make the state poorer in due course.

Hon'ble members belonging to the Anti-Modi Lobby seems to be very active in this Forum .....lol

While the World Bank’s rankings have valid data to establish, the opinion expressed by the members have nothing to substantiate...........

Mere opinion will not hold any water.

Any Tom, Dick and Harry can comment on World Bank's rankings but establishing with valid argument based on substantive defence material is more important.

World Bank is a "chamchA" (spoon) of USA and world bank's interest is to promote US interests. That is why, from time to time, world leaders not kowtowing to US, have thought of creating alternatives for World Bank, IMF, etc. The Brics Bank is envisaged to be one such.
"The New Development Bank (NDB), formerly referred to as the BRICS Development Bank,[1] is a multilateral development bank operated by the BRICS states (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) as an alternative to the existing American and European-dominated World Bank and International Monetary Fund. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Development_Bank]

Countries which blindly believed the "conditionalities" of IMF/IBRD (World Bank) which function like our mythological Aswins have only come to grief in the end; the latest example is Greece. It is easy to understand. Take the village sahukar or moneylender, even now depicted in some of our cinemas. He lends to the poor people in the village against the security of their most valuable possession like the piece of land on which their small hut stands, their gold jewellery, their cow & calf and so on with usurious conditions. The borrower defaults in repayment of interest and interest is compounded. Principal amount also gets added in instalments making it even more beyond the ability of the borrower to repay. Ultimately, the Sahukar takes ownership of the valuable securities which he has taken and the poor borrower becomes destitute and has to migrate and start his life afresh. Is not the Greek story any different? Only thing was the Euro authorities were following the IMF/IBRD guidelines!

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Sangom Ji,

Please note that the thread should not get derailed.

The thread is about ranking of Gujarat and other States as investor friendly States by World Bank. It is about a result of a survey published by the Government.

If you have got anything about the World Bank's Ranking we can discuss.

Starting a business is not something like fabricating a Horoscope in respect of mismatching cases as a member admits often in this Forum.

Establishing a business involves, first selecting the field/line, setting up of a business, allotment of land, obtaining necessary planning approval, construction permission and getting Environmental procedure, labour regulations , compliance of tax procedures and other local requisites. In fact overcoming red tapeism.

It is reported by Mr. Onno Rufl, Country Director, World Bank that these rankings were based on States performance in the identified areas only over six months.

If you have to discuss about world bank, IMF etc we can very well go for a sepeaete thread.:-)

Gujarat does not have a services sector.

Manufacturing alone cannot carry it far.

Some from other countries might invest in gujarat due to the PM belonging to that state and his facilitating and sweetening the deal.

All social indicaters are poor in gujarat.

There is more hype covering up the harsh realities of social unrest and communal riots.

Patels on the roads is an indicaters of the harsh ground realities

Patels issue is nothing to do with the topic.

Don't combine and try to derail the thread.

Stick to the topic.

It is your opinion which has no valid ground in defence.

If you have anything valid put it in black and white.

Otherwise keep your opinion yourself.

topic is investor friendliness

How can a socially disturbed state be investor friendly?

Mine is the most relevant comment.

With man days lost due to strikes, loss of life and arson , what will get manufactured.

Is this investor friendliness? lol

My post was in reply to your own taunt saying valid data is required and mere opinion won't do. How do you now change tactics and show the "poochandi" of thread getting derailed? It is you yourself who are to blame.

This social disturbance at Gujarat took place very recently

But the survey pertains to the period from January to June 2015.

You don't seems to go through the thread properly.

And you are known for knee jerk responses.

BTW do you have any State in your mind that was not socially disturbed??.

Sangom Ji,

It is a survey conducted by the World Bank and based on the data collected they have arrived at the rankings and results were furnished in the link cited. The data is there, it is a 98 point Reforms agenda covering the period from January to June 2015.

Members coming here to say that World Banks rankings are politically biased without any material in defence cannot be accepted.

I don’t change my stand or tactics.

My 2 and a half years and continued lifelong friendships across the length and breadth of Gujarat disagrees with your views. The only thing I will agree on is that Gujarat has an underdeveloped services sector. That being said, the state does just fine without it. Social indicators are quite OK for a state in that region, except education which is neglected due to the business oriented mindset of the people.

You have to live in a place to truly appreciate it, and I dare say that Ahmedabad as a city is 100 times better than Chennai (but again, just for me). :)

Guys biased against india, hindus and tambrams will believe what their self says! One gentleman has predicted that india will become islamic in another 50 years. Guess who?

I am an admirer of people of gujarat as much as you having spent a lot of time in vadodara.

I love kameti baag next to the station.

I like their vegetarianism.

It used to be a very safe place in seventies and early eighties.

girls could go unescorted to night shows in cinemas.

I have enjoyed the after effects of milk revolution with anand nearby with lassis in big glasses for throw way prices.

I have spent time at the gaekwad palace seeing ravi varmas paintings.

I have stayed in cheap rest houses at the back of the station for months with chai available at all times of the day.

I had some guju friends who could treat me to a meal at their place. .

I have taken the local buses to go to ankaleashwar , ahmedabad ,khambat.

I have been to narmada banks to enjoy picnics.

But now things are different after the riots and the scenario has changed.

Higher growth is mostly due to petroleum refining , petrochemicals industries.

Education except in MS univ or IIM ,NID nothing to talk about.

No worthwhile services , except diamond cutting ,polishing in surat.

Textiles are not doing we;ll . Mafatlal etc are closing down.

Space has some units where our folks work.

Ahmedabad , I have been a few times but not spent much time.

I have been to bhulj ,dwaraka after the devastating earthquake

As a state lovable.

I have enjoyed the navrathri festival and the garba dances

But Social indicaters are far behind other states by any statistics

Gujarat has seen a few riots since independence, none have halted the progress. This won't change even with the Patidar agitation.

North Gujarat is very backward but I haven't seen a social problem in other parts.
