World's Sixth Tallest SHIVA STATUE
On March 10,2013 a New Statue of Lord Shiv was Inaugurated in the city of Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa. This Statue Stands SIXTH Ranked in Talllest Shiva Statues (for World's Tallest Statue of lord shiv, . It is a 20m (65.6ft) Tall Statue, made by Benoni Tamil School Board.
Its a Very Wonderful Shiv Statue which is also known Locally as Shiv-Shakti Murthi or Arthanareshwarar Kovil Murthi.
Nine artisans from India spent 10 months building and putting the finer detail on the steel statue at Actonville in Benoni which features Lord Shiva on one half and Mother Shakti on the other.
On the day of Inauguration of this Majestic Statue, there was a Holiday in the entire City of Benoni. Today this Statue has become a Religious Heritage Site for the Entire Hindu Community in South Africa.
A few words said on this Statue :
“With so much emphasis in South Africa at present for the lack of respect for female gender, how appropriate for us as an organisation, to honour the females and the mother of our community, Shakti. We have a murthi that is half mother, half father, symbolising the equality of gender,” said Karthie Moothsamy, the Chairman of the Benoni Tamil School Board.
