Sir / Madam

can i know what can we do and not do during samvatsara suthakam i.e. on demise of our relations(gnathis/dayadhis) like we should not go to the hill temples and not to offer any type of sevas in temple. Please advise me.

The correct position, according to old practice and the sastras is that if a jnAthi dies, one should offer tilOdaka tarpanam on the eleventh day of demise, observe soothakam for the ten days and from the 13th. day onwards normal life can be resumed.

But when it comes to parents, grandparents (parents of father for the male) and very near jnAthis like brothers of father, close first cousins of father, etc., people refrain from going to temples and poojas etc., for one year. But this is more a personal and sentimental thing, not required by sastras.
