Mobile phones/Cell phone whatever name you call it, it has become an essential part of our everyday life.
In India, it is common for people to take calls inside a movie theater , hospitals, Temples, marriages etc and they use it, unmindful of the disturbance it makes to others; users just pick up the phone when it rings as they don’t follow any rules , thinking it is an important call ; we have seen the bride or the bride groom parents receiving a call from US/Australia/ or other places to wish them, and the purohits also stops all the proceedings so as to allow the conversation to take place, and then resume his duty.

Even when one is visiting a relative/ friend’s home to pay his respect for a departed person, they do not swatch off the cell, or keep it in silent mode; and when it rings with a cine music ring tone on such occasions, the user is embarrassed.

Is this because Indians are more ignorant about their surroundings?

Another point is that, in many cell phones ring tones ,sacred verses from Bhagavat Gita, Gayathri mantra, and other Bhakthi songs are introduced, although the sanctity of the mantras are not lost, we are forced to hear these ring tones on some inappropriate times.
Is this is because Hindus are in general, more tolerant than other religious minded people?

Muslim clerics
at a leading seminary in India have asked people not to use verses from the Quran as ringtones for their mobile phones, saying the practice violates Islamic law, reports the AP. "Quran verses "are not meant for entertainment,"

I am not aware of any prohibitory orders issued by any Christian Churches, prohibiting using of any Christian prayers in Cell phone ring tones.
Unwanted sales calls, SMS are very easy to spread to Indian Cell phone users, compared to WEST.

Indians are very much self-centered although most of them talk about selflessness and all that and try to convey a contrary image about themselves to others. So they just don't bother about their civic responsibilities. As to religious ringtones, it is a patent trademark of our hindu devotion that one puts on an exterior of very religious, pious, devoted and all that kind of person while, inside these, they care two hoots about God. The louder one's bhakti is, the higher he or she will be rated by the society. Listen to any of the bhajanais of today and you will see these principles in actual operation.

Cell phone though has been an alien technology to the country, its penetration, use and creative adaptation has been much wider and faster than in its veteran land. Surely, there is more creativity built around its use after its entry into our country. There are some nuance about its abuses as well.
Those I suppose are in a zest, although at times they are offending.
