It is my opinion that NOTA is more injurious than to vote for a person whom we do not want to elect. It is by a simple majority the winner is declared elected. In the recent Bihar polls, the losing BJP candidates lost by few thousand only. Even though the number of NOTA in those constituencies were not available for analysis, this could turn the results - the corrupt, convicted Lalu Prasad Yadav is in a position to run the Bihar Govt by proxy. I appeal to Tamil Nadu voters to be decisive - in their choice and not to waste their franchise either by abstaining from voting or by choosing NOTA. A strong opposition will also have a good control over the ruling party ! No doubt that AIADMK believes that freebies can win them the power - people should prove them wrong. Here the problem is the other choice is DMK, which is worse by any standard - corruption, rowdyism, land grabbing, katta panchayat.... what not. If the third front comes up with quality candidates, we have a better choice. It will be interesting to watch the ensuing TN elections !

அரசின் இலவச திட்டங்கள் should be extended only to people who are below poverty line.
Now many affluent people are having "Rice (green) cards" and getting all free items.

Can’t the Government with its machinery able to identify who are actually living BPL and issue Rice Cards(green) to them?

And is it such a complicated issue to cut the rice cards(green) facility extended to the affluent?

It was reported in the media that during the year
2012, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India slammed the government's poor maintenance of PDS records. It was found that the total number of persons (8.37 crore) included in the family cards in the previous year, was more than the population of the state by 1.16 crore, indicating large-scale existence of bogus cards.

BTW how many families in Tamil Nadu have got issued smart cards as promised?

Many categorised as middle class are actually poor.

They are senior citizen with minor pensions who are dependant on their children who either do not stay with them or not support them.

I know many such in brahmin families .

Outwardly they pose to be well off.

They cannot take the damages due to rains to their belongings [read furniture, consumer durables like TV, frig etc] and buy rice rations.

They hold rice cards and they require the pongal gift packets.

They require subsidies on power and water.

Govt should give help to those who say they require it instead of launching witch hunt about entitlement and bogus cards.

What are Brahmin families to do with the topic?

If the member don’t have any knowledge about the OP, he can better stay away.

Don’t try to grab the opportunity to exhibit your IQ level by dragging Brahmins in every topic unnecessarily.

Brahmins are also people. They also need to have food rations to survive .

This is a brahmin forum .

Their needs [specially senior citizens] must be articulated.

It is not shameful to admit that they require subsidies like rationed cards , LPG subsidy, subsidies for power and water.

Amma canteens serve many office going brahmins also. They are subsidised foods.

So are Amma water and Amma medicines.

We are living in a subsidised raj.

So why feel sensitive?

In free economy after 1991, 50 percent population require some type of subsidy due to high cost economy.

The OP is about declining trend of public accepting ‘Pongal Gift’ which is a freebie consist of one kg of rice, one kg of sugar, piece of sugar cane measuring two feet and cash Rs.100/=.. The over all value of this offer will be around Rs.250/=.

So, you are here to articulate the demand, rights, needs, etc of Tamil Brahmins in the Tamil Brahmins Forum.lol

If you are very serious, currently there is a thread under caption ‘Bull fighting’ being discussed.

You can represent Brahmins there also. You can fight for their right of participation in the fight. That will be more interesting.

There is another thread discussing about UP Government’s decision to revoke its bar on men having two or more wives from appointment as Urdu Teacher.

Now you can fight for the right of the Brahmins also to extend this facility wherever applicable.

Please go through all such threads, write your thoughts and grab more ‘thumbs up’. lol

Tamil nadu govt celebrated pongal in tamilnadu house in delhi.

We enjoyed Amma canteen idli ,vada and rice -lemon and curd rice paying one to three rupees.

Mostly brahmins of delhi { since the tamilnadu house is in diplomatic enclave -other communities do not go there] enjoyed the treat along with an exhibition of

tamilnadu garments and other tamilnadu specialities like idly powder and packed snacks. We would have taken the 'pongal gift 'also if it was on offer.

We will represent that it should be extended to delhi brahmins also.We are a minority here.

Tamilnadu house does a good job of looking after interests of tamil speaking people , brahmins included.

In these hard times getting a hearty breakfast on pongal for one to three rupees an item is most welcome.Outside , a plate of idli costs at least forty rupees .Other

items like mixed lemon rice are not easily available. A plate of thayir saadam in south indian hotel is expensive.

It is only politics of caste reservations and entitlements[read freebies] every where

Why should brahmins be left behind?.

Jai brahmins

Wow! You have finally become a Tambrahm supporter!

My friend Who has built a Varhar temple eats in Amma உணவகம் daily! Even the daily of Prasadam of Varhar is made out of the ration of some local villagers who get them free but get paid at about 50% of market Price!. I buy மண்ணெண்னை from a card holder paying a premium for my portable generator ! These are relities! - So why feel sensitive?

This member who is so worried about brahmins and their welfare, and has an urge and tendency to drag them in every thread unnecessarily, is free to get as many ration cards he can either genuine or bogus by using his contacts at Chennai and also help the poor brahmins financially to get their daily dose of Idli, Chappatti, etc from Amma Canteen.

Hope by doing such yeoman service to the community, he will be certainly remembered by the poor brahmins at Chennai and in recognition of his exemplary service, a locality may be named after him But don’t confuse this with ‘Krishnampet!! lol

He may organize protests, demonstrations, and agitations peacefully at Delhi and get such facilities of Amma Canteen extended to the Delhi Brahmins also. And hope Delhi Brahmins will certainly praise and hail him for his good work done for their cause. And name a park after him like that of Mughal Garden, Talkotora Garden, Lodhi Garden, etc.

Around 10 Lakh card holders did not take Pongal gifts of Amma (as is it is called), does not mean that they are keeping themselves away from freebies.

One set of categories are away from residence for Pongal hoildays.

The other set who belongs to middle / upper middle class who often get the ration - freebies discreetly on lean days,
could not go and line up in the long "Q" on account of false prestige.

I know few people in my area, who are living in independent hoses (worth > 3 to 4 crores) and having their wards affluently employed in software, are all getting freebies.
I presume that it is an inherent weakness in most of the human beings to enjoy all things for which they are not entitled to by the standard of stipulated norms and then for personal satisfaction(?) boast that it is an act of shrewdness.

I do not have a ration card.

I have not had one for the past twenty five years.

As a bachelor , I got one in hyderabad during emergency years as it was thrust on me by the local congress govt by visiting my place of stay there.

I threw it away after I left that city.

I will ask the dravidian party MP for one if there is a need.

In last delhi elections dravidian parties campaigned for national parties here in slum areas of mangolpuri and trilokpuri.

Tamilnadu house has excellent rooms for stay.

We can ask the govt in chennai to provide brahmins who visit delhi accomodation there . It is very near the airport and rajiv chowk, new delhi railway station.

During evacuation of people from tamilnadu in uttarakhand floods, Tamilnadu house accommodated the stranded tamil pilgrims many of whom were brahmins who

were stuck in badrinath.

There is no need for demo. or agitations for food in tamilnadu house. we can walk in anyday. Only I prefer Andhra bhavan jointly belonging to telengana and AP govt

which serves unlimited meals at a highly subsidised rate-less than half of saravana bhavan.Beside their breakfast is excellent. It is in heart of delhi near rajiv chowk.

Thats the best place for regular meals or breakfast.Only the meals are a bit spicy. It is hardly twenty minutes drive from my home. So great economy saving on fuel

costs.

I do not believe in agitation approach to get what I want.

A few phone calls gets me what I want for myself and for those whom I want to help.

If any brahmin , for that matter anyone approaches me I never say no if I can do it. I am not judgemental if he deserves it when it comes to food.

Food should be a fundamental right . What is the point in sitting on 260 million tonnes of grains if people go hungry for want of money?

Traders and non functional govts are busy looting the country and deny the poor the basic things.

My heart is with the have nots.

Brahmins are the new poor.Every alternate brahmin is poor and cannot support himself or his family. He is a forgotten man by those in power.

First, try to get a ration card atleast through a phone call.lol

I now agree that there are still few who wander in dreamland habitually without knowing the ground reality.

And there are few who write for the sake of replying without any substance, relevance and thus waste their time as well as that of others.

And there are alleged affluent brahmins who are really poor in thoughts and deeds.

And do nothing tangibly but comes here to express their alleged emotion and empathy towrds poor brahmins.

Who wants such lip-sake sympathy.

Hypocrites.

Not many parents would like to approach their children who are earning well for support. It demeans them .

They feel they should live on their pensions and govt support.

They have worked for a lifetime in govt and private sector.

Why should the govt not give them good pensions and provide decent social security?

A callous govt is foolishly cutting back on subsidies from the lower middle class and senior citizens who are vulnerable sectons.

Brahmins have high self respect. It can be misinterpreted as false prestige.

Maids are normally sent to collect rations and freebies.I see nothing wrong in that.

The concept of entitlements on caste lines and reservations is leaving brahmins in the cold to suffer silently,

Why suffer if one can get around it ?

hi

area....we used to live sarojini nagar govt quarters......i agreed AP bhavan food is excellent..but andhra spicy.....my cousin

used to stay house as resident engineer in tamil nadu house....im very familiar all these places....but it was long time back...

Sheila dikshit govt went out of the way to give people ration cards in delhi.

It was available for those who wanted it.

The quality of grains on ration were very poor for me to take it.

Besides , those who required kerosene went for it.Even these were given LPG connections.

Aadhar cards I got right opposite my place . I walked 5 yards for it[crossing the road outside].

You have to be in delhi to enjoy good life and not suck up to anybody.

What matters is contacts and not standing in unending queues.

That is the practical way to living . Talking rules for denying oneself everything is not a decent way to live. Demanding and getting what one is missing out due to

discrimination on caste lines is wisdom. There is reverse discrimination against brahmins. Either combat it or run away from it. No sense in talking rules and regulations

and whining about wrongs

More children, who are well settled either in India or abroad, do extend their support wholeheartedly to their parents. And there are umpteen numbers of ways to do this.

They may feel that let the pension be a supplementary, besides other sources of income generated through various assets, deposits, etc

Though the parents love to live on their pension, children don’t forget their root and do sincerely pass on the benefits availed by them.

Some minds which don’t see facts and refuse to accept reality, do come here to grumble about the state of things which are nothing but illusion and despairing about the mess around them which they see while wandering in their dreamland. lol

Don't come here to preach like a sadhu or a sage.

We have empteen number of Sadhus and Guruji around us and have been seeing them slowly one by one being booked for commissioning of various offences which includes, sexual, criminal, civil and economic offences.

Stop preaching as seriously no one is willing to spare their hears here.

Better go to Tamil Nadu House Canteen take some Sambar idly and try to engage in 'Kalakshebam'

May be staff employed there would be interested to hear for a change, as they could have been bored by regular monotonous exercise. lol

It is not my contention that children do not support parents.

I only said that parents do not like to approach children for support..

With all the assets and deposits of senior citizen, the free economy and high costs has made 50 % population including senior citizen depend on some subsidy or other.

Thats the crass reality.

We want subsidised power , water which are expensive because of bad management.

We want subsidised food due to high costs of supporting leakages in food distribution, hoarding besides unrealistic cost of grains based on high input costs of fertilisers for

farming besides MSP based on arbitrary fixing of rates.

We have a skewed economy with brahmins also facing the misery of bad living. We are a neglected constituency. Our satvik law abiding nature is the cause of many

miseries. So why not admit the truth and ask for what one does not have as a matter of right and entitlement
