Actually Tirunelveli is a "triplet town". Three municipal towns Tirunelveli, Palayamkottai and Melappaalayam are adjoining with boundaries one overlapping the other two.

Then these 3 municipalities were merged into one and Tirunelveli Coroporation was formed.
திரு என்றால் மரியாதை ............... it is true. If a person is identified as a Brahmin , people will call him not by name but only as "Saami"

hi

i visited once...tirunelveli junction very nice.....i llike tamraparani river.....many nice brahmin garahharams with kerala border.....

PJ Sir ,thanks for the info regarding Thirunelvel .I am yet to Visit Thirunelveli and the temples nearby and I hope to do so in the coming days .

You can take some tirunelveli halwa from there nkrishnaji.lol

I had a tamil iyer boss who would ask job aspirants whether he is a brahmin from tirunelveli before selecting him.

He felt comfortable with TBs from there.

As a vaishnavite brahmin from originally tanjore district, I claimed proximity and requested him extend the choice to a neighbouring district.

He would say he felt comfortable if a name ends with the letter n -raman or krishnan .lol

- It is all musical - Local dialect is musical - Places like Karukurichi and Harikesavanallur ring musical notes

Temples vibrate with music I picked these songs of Muthuswamy Dikshidhar about Gods in this district

Dikshitar Kriti - Kailasa Nathena - Raga Kambhoji

Dikshitar Kriti - Parvata Raja Kumari - Raga Sri Ranjani

திருநெல்வேலி - Kailasanathar temple in Kailasapuram close to Junction

Dikshitar Kriti - Sri Kantimatim - Raga Desi Simharavam (I thought it was Hemavathy) - Nelliappar temple in Town

Dikshitar Kriti - Sri Lakshmi Varaham - Raga Abhogi - Adhi varahar temple in Kallidaikuruchi

Kailasanathar temple in Kailasapuram close to Junction.............

Kailasanathar is facing east and gazing at River Tamirabarani from less than a distance of 100 yards.
Bharathiyar's in laws lived in South Car street Kailasapuram.

It is told Smt Chellammal lived with her parents when Barathiyar was wandering with his friends.

I forgot about this song on Salivatisvarar

Dikshitar Kriti - Saalivaatisvaram - Raga Deva Gandhari

And the most talked about subject in forums, Sundar Pitchai is perhaps from Tirunelveli District. Only in Tirunelveli District you come across names like, pitchai, pitchumani, pitchu sundaram etc as names of males.

What does the word Pitchai actually mean ? Normally in Tamil the word Pitchai means begging and beggaras are called Pitchaikaran . So when people use the word Pitchai ( like Pitchumani , Pitchai etc ) does it have the same meaning or does it mean begging in a different context i.e begging for God grace etc .

In my native district (Tirunelveli) the word pitchai/pitchu gets attached to the name if the child was born after a long time, after a lot of begging by the parents to the God. The God sends that angel of a child as an alms. So the grateful parents attaches the pitchai/pitchu to the name so that it will never be forgotten.

Thanks Vaagmiji for the clarification . Any specific reasons why it is used mostlyin Thirunelveli?

In some families, the child born after a long time (late issues) are named pitchai, pitchumani, pitchu , pitchammal etc. as a reciprocation of thanks to God for His grace in acceding to their prayer..

No specific reasons. Each district has its own peculiarities of use of language.

Like the kammanaatti of Tanjore district and Echchu vechchu vikkiraanungo of Tirupur/Coimbatore or the solla maatraanga of Chennai. LOL.
