Sir,

Your statement may imply that you believe in astrology and in astrologers. Was that the intention?

Sir,
If I say in a lighter vein...... like you do some research in spiritual energy, I did some research in Astrology(after getting a degree and post graduate degrees did Phd in the subject) My intention is to find out the truth myself whether the predictive technologies are hold good, true and accurate. I have published five papers in Indian Astrology and two in Western Astrology.
I am not practising astrology for monetary gain; but provides free counselling to my relatives and friends who approach me. This is done as pastime.

Dear Shri Yesmohan,

Thanks for the info. I have a limited knowledge of astrology. Even that gave me the impression based on its application that astrology is a very deep science. It is a really fascinating area. I would like to devote a lot of time on it sometime.

Sir,
In Astrology, only the casting of Horoscope is science / mathematics..... as the birth chart defines the exact planetary positions at the time of birth of a man / native; This is a deep science as you said.

But the prediction part is totally an art with a lot of pre-set defined rules put forth by our fore-fathers.For many prediction rules, scientific rationales / rules/laws would not be applicable. Many rules are followed only as a mere belief.
But astrology is a good counselling science / art. After consulting astrologers, many get pacified and appear to have got out worries. The status of mind appear to have calmed down for quite some time.

Yes ji

Regarding Vedanga Joyhiham, I have two Books and also a detailed research paper by Prof. T.S.Kuppanna Shastry.

Vedanga Joyhiham is by Sage "Lagadha" ( somewhere between 1350 B.C. AND 1500 B.C.)

Vedanga Joyhiham does not relates to the predictive Astrology. It relates mostly to astronomy and Ganith part of Astrology and lunar calender calculations on Indian Astronomy.

I am of the view that the planets (as per astrology) do not have any direct (or indirect) effect on worldly things, including human affairs. But the astrological chart is like an "encoded map" which can reveal many things to a trained person who can correctly decode the same. Our traditional "Jyosyan" used to be brought up in an atmosphere in which astrology was always 'in the air'; plus, our old people insisted that a person has to be a firm believer in God in order to become an astrologer who could predict accurately. Again, the jyosyan was not to ask for any fixed "Dakshinai" but to accept with full grace whatever was offered by the person who came seeking his help. As a result, our traditional astrologers most often were abjectly poor, unless they enjoyed the patronage of some Zamindar, King, rich man, etc.

Today, all the above conditions do not exist and hence the unreliability of astrologers. Above all, we should ever remember that no amount of human effort or wisdom can ever read completely what is written by Brahma in one's forehead and so astrologers have their own limitations, ultimately. Astrology very much served, and admirably too, the community in the very same way psychologists do in modern societies.

Sir,
I agree with the points;
But the point.........., our old people insisted that a person has to be a firm believer in God in order to become an astrologer who could predict accurately............. was also tested with 25 most religious astrologers ( including 2 Nambodris from Kerala) also who all practising astrology.
The test was done by me using one and the same horoscope of a known person to me and to my research guide and recording the astrologers' versions of predictions. Recording was done discreetly. This list of 25 includes so many famous astrologers of today

This was done to include a chapter in my thesis, about this point.

As my guide insisted that a minimum of 25 astrologers are to be tested to have a reliable result for the purpose of research, I had to spend a substantial amount on this project.

None of the predictions come anywhere near the truth. This is the truth.

I think astrology per se is BS.

But the fact that it has the capacity to touch the deepest emotions in humans - fear, love, hatred, etc., - make it a powerful tool. When one hears a prediction - the mind becomes very receptive to it for therein lies the secret of our future. Our hopes. And desires. Unconsciously, the data (prediction) gets embedded in our psyche and mind gets affected by it. How it behaves after the prediction may very well depend on a combination of variables like our value system, worldview, rational thinking, balance of mind, temperament etc.

Nothing but mind games. The slightest amout of belief, and you would be sucked in.
