Delhi had an airport metro operated by private agency Reliance connectung international airport to city centre. It had wild rates -rs 160 . it used to run mostly empty.

private operator hung up and it got taken over by DMRC who halved the rates. The occupation got a little better.

If rates are lowered , they can transport more volumes of traffic.

Delhi metro is always full.

It is cheaper , faster and comfortable. Only last mile connectivity issues.

we have metro station in front of our society gate in east delhi near noida.....very convenient and fast/cheaper....now home prices are increased

மெட்ரோ ரயில்: சில்லுன்னு ஒரு பயணம்

சினிமாக்களில் மட்டுமே பார்த்துவந்த மெட்ரோ ரயிலை சென்னைவாசிகள் நேரில் கண்டுவிட்டார்கள். கடந்த திங்களன்று (29.06.2015) சென்னை மக்களின் நீண்ட நாள் கனவான மெட்ரோ ரயில் தன் பயணத்தைத் தொடங்கிவிட்டது. புறநகர் ரயில், பறக்கும் ரயில் வரிசையில் புதிதாக இந்த மெட்ரோ ரயிலும் சேர்ந்துகொண்டது.

மெட்ரோ ரயில் பயணம் சென்னைவாசிகளுக்குப் புதுவிதமான அனுபவமே. ஏனெனில் முழுவதும் குளிர்சாதன வசதி கொண்ட பெட்டிகளில் வெப்பமான சென்னை நகரின் ஊடே மேம்பாலத்தில் செல்லுவது உண்மையிலேயே உற்சாகமாக இருப்பதாகவே மெட்ரோ ரயிலில் பயணம்செய்தவர்கள் கூறுகிறார்கள். வெளியே சுட்டெரிக்கும் வெயிலைக் கண்ணாடி வழியே பார்த்தபடி வானத்தில் மிதப்பது போல குளுமையுடன் பயணிக்கும்போது ஆசுவாசமாக இருக்கத்தான் செய்கிறது என்கிறார்கள் அவர்கள்.
கிட்டத்தட்ட பறக்கும் ரயிலின் அமைப்பிலேயே மெட்ரோ ரயில் இருக்கிறது. பறக்கும் ரயிலில் உட்கார அதிக இடம் இருக்கும், நிற்க குறைவான இடம் இருக்கும். மெட்ரோவில் இருக்க குறைவான இடம், நிற்க அதிக இடம் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. ரயில் நிலையம்கூடப் பறக்கும் ரயில் நிலையம் போலவே விசாலமானதுதான்.

ஆனால் மெட்ரோவில் தொழில்நுட்ப வசதிகள் பறக்கும் ரயிலைவிட மேம்பட்டிருக்கின்றன. நடைமேடையில் ஒரு பிளாட்பாரத்திலிருந்து மற்றொன்றுக்குச் செல்ல இங்கே மேம்பாலம் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. பறக்கும் ரயில் நடைமேடைகள் இப்படி மேம்பாலத்தால் இணைக்கப்பட்டிருக்காது.

மேலும் பறக்கும் ரயில் வந்துசெல்லும் நிலையங்களில் காற்று உள்ளே வந்துவிடக் கூடாது என்று முன்யோசனையோடு கட்டியிருக்கிறார்களே என்று தோன்றும் அளவில் அவற்றை அமைத்திருப்பார்கள். வியர்வை வழிய வழியதான் நிற்க வேண்டும். பிளாட்பாரத்தின் முனைப் பகுதியில் மட்டுமே காற்று வர முடியும். ஆனால் இங்கே அந்தப் பிரச்சினை இல்லை.

Jaya wanted monorail and initiated studies despite karunanidhi had done the preliminary work. Jaya lost and standard rail project was started by MK, and Jaya could not drop the project already in progress. So MK should get credit.

Understand that Chennai Metro work is executed with a better quality & finesse as compared to Bengaluru where in roads were closed for months for facilitating Metro construction...Also in Bengagluru it does not seamlessly connect the main railway station and airport which Chennai Metro does!

The weekend together saw about 1.56 lakh people travelling by the Chennai Metro Rail and ticket sales was put at Rs.38.6 lakh.

The Chennai Metro Rail is arguably riding on its recreational quotient — going by the number of people, 80,000, taking a ride on Sunday, the highest since its launch last week.

Ever since the Chennai Metro Rail was launched on Monday last, about 3.26 lakh people have travelled in it with ticket sales touching Rs.1 crore.

Officials of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) said they did expect crowds since it was the first weekend after the launch.

“The Alandur and CMBT stations had the maximum number of visitors last week and the weekend too; since Alandur is a hub, it recorded a large number of footfall,” an official said.

The trains with four rakes have a capacity to take 1,200 people and run at an average speed of 35 km/hour.

War of words between DMK, AIADMK over Chennai Metro Rail continues, PMK too steps in

CHENNAI: The war of words between archrivals DMK and AIADMK over Metro Rail continued today with the former asking Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to clarify when her government had taken a decision about the project.

Responding to Jayalalithaa's statement that the seeds for the project were sown in 2003, DMK President M Karunanidhi asked that if it were so, on what date was the issue discussed in the cabinet or when the foundation stone was laid.

"Between 2003 and 2006, Jayalalithaa was chief minister. Can she announce what per centage of Metro rail work was initiated during this three year period?" he asked.

Listing out the efforts taken by his government in this regard, he said it had ordered Detailed Project Report (DPR) and handed over the work to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

"Monorail was first proposed during the 2001-2006 rule of the AIADMK. The DMK regime that took over in 2006 had little interest in the project and moved towards the implementation of Metro rail project. After returning to power in 2011, the former Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, resurrected the monorail proposal.
On Friday, during the debate on the Governor’s address to the Assembly, DMK member and former Minister I. Periyasamy quoted the monorail project as an example of the AIADMK government not keeping its promises.

Rain exposes poor Metro Rail work

Just a month after launch, poor quality of work at the Chennai Metro Rail stations has been exposed, with the roofs leaking and platforms flooded with water following heavy rain.

Commuters who travelled through Koyambedu and CMBT stations on Wednesday had to carefully tread on the granite flooring and staircases filled with pool of water at various places. For a brief period, one of the escalators in Koyambedu station stopped working.
The staff at CMBT Metro Rail station had placed buckets at the concourse level to collect water leaking from the roof. Commuters were clearly disappointed at the dismal state of stations, What is worse is that it was just 3 centimetres of rainfall (in Nungambakkam and 2 cm in Meenambakkam).

S. Gopalakrishnan, a first time rider of Chennai Metro Rail, looked at the leaking roofs in disbelief.

“I knew the traffic would grow worse during rain and hence chose to take Metro Rail to Alandur. I was quite eager to travel since it is my first ride; but I’m quite disappointed with the standard. A recently inaugurated building cannot afford to have leaking roofs. This place looks similar to the Chennai airport that had similar problems,” he added.

சென்னை: துவங்கப்பட்ட 4 மாதத்திற்குள் சென்னை மெட்ரோ ரயில்களில் மக்கள் கூட்டம் வெகுவாக குறைந்துவிட்டது. பெரும் ஆரவாரத்தோடு தொடங்கப்பட்ட இந்தப் போக்குவரத்துக்கு மக்கள் மத்தியில் மவுசு குறைந்து விட்டதாகவே தெரிகிறது. ஆரம்பத்தில் இருந்த கூட்டம், அலை மோதல் இப்போது இல்லை. படிப்படியாககுறைந்து போய் விட்டது.
