One of the two C-17 Globemaster aircraft are on their way back from war-torn Juba in South Sudan this morning.

On board will be 143 Indians including 10 women and three infants. MoS General VK Singh who is coordinating the rescue efforts from Juba met with S Sudan foreign minister Deng Alor Kuol. Indian Blue Berets posted in South Sudan as part of UNMISS are also lending a helping hand in the evacuation effort.

India has launched Operation Sankat Mochan to evacuate 600 Indians from war-torn South Sudan. South Sudan has been rocked by violence that has claimed hundreds of lives. "We are launching OP #SankatMochan to evacuate Indian nationals from South Sudan. My colleague @Gen_VKSingh is leading this operation," External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted yesterday.

Many of the indians there have decided to stay back and not take the offer of return to india.

Once people are used to living in a place,it is painful to relocate.

Most would prefer to rough it out.

Those who left gulf after the war there have mostly returned.

In india they were misfits.

Mr. Krish, It is true. Once anyone/ family is settled in gulf countries ( mostly Malayalees ) have shown their Dil for endurance years back when Evaquation was made on war -footing,it was history--- one / Lone Nurse remained steadfast & proved your point ?

I am curious as to why GOI takes this as an obligation? I think it is ok if the airfare is not free. People went to make profit, perhaps they should absorb some of the risk as well?

So what happens if there is some trouble in Australia, Malaysia, UK or USA? Would GOI rescue those millions of expat Indians too? What about those who have taken foreign citizenship?

He is good at as external affairs minister.

Modi believes in making use of best use of any talent in the cabinet.

Now a muslim minister is added in the cabinet in external affairs to take care of gulf and other muslim countries.

Oh no, please don't be so harsh Biswa, they sends millions in Forex for the government, more over every country has some sense of responsibility towards its citizens where ever they are. They are also doing a favor to the nation going abroad, by lessening the burden on domestic job market. Now don't yo think that's something great?

This move to get people out of sudan is over hyped.

They could not get people to board the giant two planes sent .

now it is foolishly acknowledged that it is overdone.

Most there have decided not to return.

Living with aboriginals is a better option than roughing it out in india.

Their concern -who will pay for the return fare later when they want to return.
