Very cruel and barbaric practice. The perpetrators of this hot oil trial, should be severely punished..Though I am not saying that the boys are innocent, but this is no way to treat the boys! What happened to the Juvenile board which has to act on this 4 minor boys undergo 'hot oil trial' to prove honesty in Madhya Pradesh : India, News - India Today
Four minor boys of Jhila village in Madhya Pradesh were allegedly forced to put their hands in a cauldron of boiling oil as part of agni pariksha (a medieval practice of trial by fire) to prove their innocence. They were forced to undergo the ordeal on Thursday after a theft of `500 at Jhila village in Sagar district.
Bhagwandas Chadar and his brother Lakhan and his wife Sashi suspected that four boys, Bharat Kushwaha (13), Halkoti Patel (12), Akash Kushwaha (11) and Ramkumar Kushwaha (14), had stolen `500.
According to Rahatgarh police station in-charge Anuragi Sharan the boys were told to undergo the trial when they returned from school on Thursday evening.
Lakhan went to the houses of the boys, who live in neighbourhood and lured them with a promise of a treat. When they came, they were allegedly assaulted by the Chadar family accusing them of theft. The boys pleaded innocence. Later, the family decided their role in theft could be identified through 'agni pariksha'. When they ordered them to dip their hands in boiling oil, the boys refused. The accused forcibly dipped their hands in the cauldron one by one.
One of the victims, Akash, managed to escape and informed his parents and family of the other children. Later, villagers rescued them. "The police arrested Bhagwan Das Chadar, Sashi and Lakhan," Sharan said.
Trial by fire, based on the premise that God will intervene to protect the innocent, has a history dating back thousands of years and across different cultures, though in Europe it was banned by the Church in the middle ages.board?
