4 Reasons To Match Kundali Before Getting Married

Marriages in India are largely based on Kundali Milan (horoscope matching). It is considered as a crucial step before making any final commitment to the prospective bride and groom. Although, not many believe in this horoscope matching ritual. But those who do, will not get their daughter or son married without matching the ‘gunas’ with their prospective partners.

Not many people know as to why the kundali of the bride and the groom are matched before the wedding is finalised. So, read on to find out the reasons behind this kundali matching custom.

# 1. To check marriage compatibility

Marriage, in Hinduism is considered to be a sacred union that the couple should not only abide by in this life, but for the next seven successive lives too. Horoscope basically reflects the positions of different planets of a person and their effects on his/her life.

According to shastras, nature considers man and woman as a single identity post-marriage. As a result, one spouse’s destiny, luck and fate influences the other. It can either do wonders or lead to a bad relationship. This is why, kundali milan plays a vital role in decoding the marriage compatibility of two people.

2. To know relationship quotient

Guna or Ashtakoot, is one of the major parameters taken into consideration while matching a kundali. Altogether, there are eight gunas that are taken into consideration to test the amity between two people.

Each guna has different numeric points, which when added, sum up to a total of 36. The marriage is acceptable if two kundalis match with 18 or more points. Higher score means better compatibility.

Criteria for Guna matching:

  • Varna – Matching of the castes
  • Vashya – Attraction
  • Tara – Longevity
  • Yoni – Nature and characteristics
  • Graha Maitri – Natural friendship
  • Gan – Mental compatibility
  • Bhakoot – Relative influence of one on the other
  • Nadi – Possibility of child birth

3. To foresee mental and physical compatibility

Both the partners' mindset, behaviour, temper, interest and aptitude are predicted through kundali milan. This ensures a happy marriage. Also, the level of physical attraction is tested since marriage cannot survive if there is no feeling of desirability for each other. Moreover, the health condition of the to-be bride and groom is also a point to be considered. And, this too is revealed by horoscope matching.

4. To foretell financial conditions and family adjustment

Financial stability is one thing that every parent looks into when they get their son or daughter married. What will be the job prospective in the near future, how stable will be the couple's financial condition; and even chances of promotions are analysed through kundali.

Besides this, the other thing that is tallied is the adjustment parameter. Whether the girl and the boy can adjust with each other and their respective families or not, whether they can adapt to changing situations or not are part of the matching ritual.

Now you all know why elders generally talk about horoscope matching before a match is finalised. Above everything else, kundali milan is done to ensure that the newlyweds live a ‘happily ever after’ married life.

( EVEN AFTER KUNDALI MATCHING ( horoscope matching ) MANY MARRIAGES END UP IN BREAK UP- The Percentage of such break ups are also on the rise; This tread is probably due to many reasons- members can explore about them)

Well, jatakam may be treated as a resume or CV, ideal for prejudging if the contents of cv or casting of horoscope are correct and error-bias free. Face to face interview (nowadays telephone or skype interviews) or 'ponnu parthal' clinches the deal.

After an elaborate selection process - written test, group discussions, case study, stress test, harsh interview - the chosen candidate sometimes proves a dud not suitable for the job.

It was a practice to do detailed analysis of boy and girl matching their dasa-bukti over an extended period; it was not a 5 minute job.

I have seen many perfectly matched horoscope arranged marriages become unhappy marriages or worse still land in divorce.

I feel there is no actual way to predict an accurate match that will make anyone live happily after.

There is so much unknown to us and yet we always feel we got it all right!

You are right as usual. I presume Most of the posters got married and had arranged marriage with Jadgam matching. It was the culture at that time of the land. The culture is changing and the land is changing. Marriages (of all kinds) and relationships have their ups and downs. There is no fool proof way of finding happiness. In India women have found their voice and financial freedom. That dynamics is new to Marriage, and divorce is an option available to get out of bitter marriages to the financially able person. Still there are women trapped in unhappy marriage in Indian society.
There are very many happy love marriages where no Kundali match was done.

For instance The OP could have stated that marriage held on sunny days will be happier. It still would not guarantee happy marriage.
On the other hand The OP could have stated that marriage held on cloudy days will be happier. It still would not guarantee happy marriage.
Then the night time marriage is another game. It is all a chance and Karma. LOL. nothing more.
