This mother is putting her interest against growth of the son.
The martyrdom of parents is nothing but selfishness of the parents in old age.

Empty nest syndrome is a feeling of grief and loneliness parents or guardians may feel when their children leave home for the first time, such as to live on their own or to attend a college or university. It is not a clinical condition.

Since a young adult moving out from his or her parents' house is generally a normal and healthy event, the symptoms of empty nest syndrome often go unrecognized. This can result in depression and a loss of purpose for parents, since the departure of their children from "the nest" leads to adjustments in parents' lives. Empty nest syndrome is especially common in full-time mothers.

I agree 100%.

I see so many demanding old people these days who expect the best of everything..with age their desires too increase and believe me oldies too try to compete with each other!LOL

Recently one old man was very angry with his son cos his son could not afford to take him to a private medical centre for surgery but instead took him to a top government hospital out here.

Everything went well but still he was not happy and complained to me that his other oldie friends are going to laugh at him cos he did not get treatment from a private medical centre.

Coming to empty nest syndrome..parents should realize that they are temporary guardians for this kids and not hold on to them forever.

If we start training our mind from young to not be dependent on anyone as much as we can..old age will be a welcome change.
