Age of retirement is prescribed may be because of the reason that for execution any particular work, you need to have an active body capable of responding to a proactive mind with clinical perfection. Catching up with age, your energy level becomes low and the body slows down to accept commands though mind may still think young. The perfection required for various commitments are different, and that's the reason in some cases certain age old people does exemplary work in specific fields. Any how body of people of age 70 plus normally requires a lot of rest to keep them steady. They can still contribute to the main stream by sharing their experience with the younger lot without actively participating in the real front. turning to the main subject again, the two persons mentioned in the original post, seems to be extraordinary, stored with immense energy and thus are capable to stay afloat on mainstream politics even at this age!!

Contrary to this, some politicians at a fairly young age occupy powerful position. Bill Clinton became US President, the most powerful position in the world, at the age of 43.
