In the history of Tamil Nadu, it is the first time a party that has contested elections without any national allies is winning 37 seats out of 40 seats (39 in Tamil Nadu & 1 in Puduchery)..Kudos to Dr J.Jayalalithaa & AIADMK for this stupendous performance...It shows that hard work, welfare measures pays..May be the people felt that law & order was better ..Also power cuts was not the no 1 problem to cause a swing to the opposition!

DMK which was playing the Sethusdamudram card and failures on the Power front has been wiped out in the elections which is good news too!

The exit polls were not predicting a sweep for AIADMK either..Most channels were predicting about 25-28 seats for the party!

With NDA already crossing half way mark, will Amma join NDA now! I think that is the best that can happen to the party! It will be beneficial to Tamil Nadu too!

AIADMK achieved victory on its own, third largest party in Parl

J Jayalalithaa addresses a presser after the AIADMK win in Tamil Nadu. "I thanks the people of Tamil Nadu for making the AIADMK the third largest party in parliament. The AIADMK has achieved this victory on it's own, without any partners. Thank all those who have worked hard and sincerely for the victory of our candidates."
" I wish the new Govt and the new PM well, hope the new Govt will be friendly towards Tamil Nadu. Trends show the AIADMK is the 3rd largest party nationally, we will function as a responsible political party," said J Jayalalithaa.

AIADMK leads in 36 out of 39 seats in the state. Cong in second place nationally with approximately 54 seats.

This is also the first time all the three major political outfits in TN viz., AIADMK, DMK, Congress contested independently. Since the individual vote percentage in respect of AIADMK is more, it is able to win comfortably. Interestingly, as per reports, next to AIADMK, BJP has got more percentage of votes.

MK's poor political strategy cost him dearly. If DMK aligned with Congress, they would have won substantial number of seats, taking into account the number of votes polled for DMK and Congress.

Somewhat one could say that Amma's calculation and strategy did not fully work. She would have been in a commanding position today if the tally of NDA is in the range of 220 to 230 seats. As NDA crossed more than 330 seats and BJP on its own itself got an absolute majority, the support from ADMK is not required for forming / running the Government. To this extent, it is a set back. Now, mutual respect is only way for smooth functioning of Government.

Tasmac 37/39 won. Tamilnadu loses to the party of Rakshasa "Unending extended Power cuts, increase of Tasmac sale, No solution for the Farmers water problem, All Industries in the worst stage of almost closure or lay off, Price rise in everything.
OMG why are you in "Anantha Padmanabha Sayanam". Please wakeup and help atleast Tamilnadu (also West Bengal in the great rule of Mamatha). Modi will take care of all other states since he will be permitted.

I think Amma did a mistake of not aligning with the BJP..She could have contested 30 seats & leave the rest to BJP

This is the refrain of several people!

On the other hand if she had aligned with BJP then DMK would have been forced to align with Congress and then it will be difficult to tackle the giant might of the opposition coalition!

In that case she would have also missed the opportunity to showcase her own capabilities and AIADMK's own strength..She would have to play second fiddle to others!

Now at least she has earned amazing respect & brought credibility to her own 3 year rule

What a victory it was! In the history of Tamil Nadu even DMK, during the hey days of 1970's, did not get so many seats!

Let us congratulate Amma for this!

hi

still amma wave there in tn..........i think pon radhakrishnan win from kanyakumari....he may get some ministerial berth in from tn....

Is there much point in having regional parties in parliamentary election? Both Amma and Mamata (also Telugu Desam etc) have thrown tantrums in the past to the detriment of national interest.

The DMK / AIADMK battle makes more sense in state polls. Maybe similar 2 party system should exist in national level as well?

I fully agree with your view. Regional parties should not be allowed in Central election, they may be allowed if they partner with a central coalition.

That is democracy! Secular Muslim league can contest, but pattali katchi or Tamil brahmana munnetra kazhagam cannot!!

I doubt whether Amma will join NDA. Even though as the saying goes that there is no permanent friend or foe as far as politics are concerned, whether NDA will consider her entry favorably is still under cloud.

Mr. Sarang your sarcasm is killing me. My statement was a general observation if you can understand that. There was no Hindutwa or Taliban Hinduism involved in that statement. You can not wish away 125,000,000 Indian muslims. Let us see if your party can change the constitution so all Indians have the same law. They have the mandate and seat count in Lok Shabha, do they have the guts to do the right thing?

Rhetorics will not help. If your modi hate and bjp aversion has not evaporated or even mellowed which sane Indians have effectively demonstrated, that is unfortunate. Those psecs who talk of minority appeasement and majority bashing have been taught a lesson. Modi said he will work for all 125 crore Indians.
The main issue is why small parties cannot fight national elections when even individuals can fight as independents. It is against fundamental rights.

AIADMK's performance is amazing. Whether this victory will help TN remains to be seen. After all TN govt has to depend on central govt for power, rice etc.
Though Modi has said that any party is welcome to support NDA, it is doubtful if he will offer any ministerial berth unless he sees some benefit in doing so. If AIADMK does not become part of NDA, there would not be any help from the centre.

Modi will do what he says will do. Anyway jaya will have cordial relations with Centre. Major issues are water sharing with Karnataka and fishing rights with srilanka. Out of box thinking, river linking, extending fishing zones, may lead to acceptable solution.
