Smartphones are becoming more or less the same across all Price Points, and even the cheapest Phones offer a good experience in everyday usage.

Innovation in the Designs of Smartphones has pretty much stagnated with one or two exceptions. The Moto X was unique in that it allowed Customers to choose every aspect of the exterior of the Moto X, from the color of the small band to the actual Material of the outer shell itself.

Alcatel has announced the Pixi, and it is following along the same lines, though not to such an extent. You can choose with OS you want with the Pixi, and you choices are limited to Android, Firefox OS and Windows Phone.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to run all three or switch to another OS after you buy the phone, due to pressure from Google and Microsoft.

Indeed, if you like choice, then Alcatel has another one for you; You can choose from four Variations of the Pixi: A 3G 3.5 Inch one along with 4, 4.5 and 5 Inch Models with 4G.

Details on the internals of the device haven’t been revealed yet, and will probably be revealed at CES, but don’t expect it to be too powerful.

For other details like Price, we would have to wait for CES, which is just around the corner.
What do you think? Are you up for a Platform-Agnostic Device?

This is the joke of yesterday years. Bill gates said - if only the auto industry had made similar progress as computer, a car will cost a few dollars, will go round the world in one gallon of gas and can be packed in a suitcase. GM chairman retorted - it will breakdown ever I day, freeze in the highway and will not break or stop in an emergency.

I have an Acer netbook with win7 and android with awful performance. My google nexus7 tab has become a pain when upgraded from KitKat to lollipop. It freezes and crashes like windows. No solution yet despite active discussion in forums.
My personal opinion is integration of many discrete specialities will be a failure, like sharp TVs once promoted with computing and gaming functions. I will say, this multi-os is a non starter and will be full of bugs.
For the select few interested in dabbling with technology, this will be a good gadget. I may try it, cost permitting.

Sarangji,

Your assumption is wrong that it runs multiple-OS. At the time of buying, you choose which OS it runs, and it will run that OS for the rest of its life. You won't be able to change the OS, like your other devices such as the Acer Netbook.

Indeed, Lollipop has many software bugs which affect not only the Nexus 7 but also other devices. Since then Google has released an update (5.0.2) which corrects everything that is wrong with Lollipop. You may try updating your OS.

Thanks for the info. Even with latest update my nexus7 is a pain. I will check again.

If multi os system is not available because of pressure, then this phone loses its usp. My wife a windows buff hung on to a win phone for a long time despite its problems, is now forced to switch to android, but not happy with it - not user friendly according to her.

Firefox has to work hard to get reasonable market share say 10%, it may not happen. Windows too is slipping fast. But the future is very bright for smart phones. Yesterday I saw a toy drone in landmarks; it is controlled by a mobile app and not by a separate hand held remote. With the govt's thrust to do all individual transactions through digital mobile route, smart apps in regional languages will rule the market.
