Hi Renuka JI –
Pl take my post in the right spirit !!
for a lot of people, the competitive spirit is not required as they have decent jobs & they are happy to get by in life except for the super ambitious. The problem starts when the economy goes down or the company they are working for lays off people.
Once one is out of a job in later years, or the business does not do well, there is no way to recover if one does not have the competitive spirit – go getter attitude to come back to work again.
So lets not “generalize” based on “limited – one person example” !!
Cheers,
Dear JK,
I do not drink..so no 'spirits'!LOL
Jaykay ..from what I have noted competitiveness is grossly misunderstood.
Most people who claim to have a competitive spirit are downright jealous of others and want to stand out at any cost and at times even paint a bad image of another just to project themselves as the best of the best when they know that they are technically only killing themselves "mentally"
These are the types who eventually think of suicide.
Believe me I have seen many types of people like this.
I have even seen a patient many years ago who was so competitive that he could not even have sex with his bride cos he felt what if his performance is not up to the mark!LOL
Then he told me that in life he wants to always be on top..so I told him that what was his problem here cos he will most of the while be on top in a physical relationship!
I had to give him counselling to make him relax and understand that when he is with his wife no one is giving him marks for sex and he is not in the porn industry to worry about performance.
After a couple of consultations he was fine and became a father of many kids!
He thanked me lots for my advice.
Now Jaykay...what you are saying in your post is being hardworking..working smart and working right.
That is our duty to do our work right and not to slack.
I run my own business..I know how ups and downs of business is all about.
Competitiveness only takes you for a short distance but in the long run equiposed in all situations is what takes us thru life.
When I was in college there used to a student who was extremely competitive.
During exams she would be asking papers non stop to write her answers when it was just less than 5 mins.
One day she told me that she did that asking papers on purpose to make the rest of us good students scared that she knew all answers and needed more paper when she actually only just started.
She told me "you are a good student yourself so if you see me asking papers you might panic that I know more than you and forget some of your work and I can score higher than you"
I found it amusing and started to laugh..I told her "its our individual knowledge being tested here..may be the best man win"
Get what I mean? It was an exam and instead of concentrating on her exam she was trying to bring down others.
This attitude does not take anyone anywhere.
Most so called competitive individuals are so hell bent of bringing others down that they do not realize they slide down the scale of life too.
