Annalakshmi Restaurant is value for money

I heard mixed reviews about the one in cbe. Apparently those who serve food are volunteers and are not paid staff.

Being a regular visitor to Annalakshmy..I must say..their buffet ..is of very poor quality.. with not so much of varieties..or good taste.. If you have enough time [around.. 2 to 3 hrs.] to spend.. certainly you can enjoy the different varieties of Menu in the general section either for Lunch or Dinner..

I have never visited Annalakshmi so far and few months back I wanted to visit there and enquired my friend who had been a regular visitor to Annalakshmi in the past and he told me that it is no longer the Anna lakshmi of the past and the quality has come down and there are better other alternatives in Chennai . He told that first time visitors will find it very good but those who have been going there regularly in the past 1 decade or so can see the decline in the quality .
I really cannot take my call on this as I have never visited there .

Well deterioration may be a harsh word . What is referred to is the loss of the Original quality etc that Annalakshmi was famous for . Might be with many other Elite restaurants coming up in Chennai people feel that there are better alternatives for Anna Lakshmi . But last week or so writer Blakumaran had visited and had given a good feedback in his FB . Who knows Annalakshmi might be aware of the negative reviews from its regular customers and would have addressed the same in the current year .Anyway I have to visit it and see for myself

BTW the negative reviews are there for many other famous eating joints from regular customers in Chennai . Might be there is some change in ownership , lack of enthusiasm in the nest generation to carry forward the spirit of the restaurant which made it famous or purely unable to manage the huge crowd that comes for eating as in the past if 100 people used to visit a restaurant today 300 people visit and may be they find it difficult to manage the same with the same quality .

Repeat experience never gives you the pleasure of first experience. Perhaps that may be the reason with frequenters to find the food less attractive. Any way can't say anything here since I am yet experience the ambiance.

Better to avoid gowrishankar and annapoorna nowadays.

I frequent Annalakshmi as well as the Sancha Chulha in the same locality. Annalakshmi is good for Southindian Veg food and Sancha Chulha for Punjabi Veg foods. Both are good quality. I have been visiting these places since 2000 and I find them still good.

Annalakshmi:

Take a left turn to Egmore as you drive along Mt. road from Guindy towards Anna Statue. As you cross a bridge on a canal turn right and on the road along canal drive a few metres. You have this restaurant on your left.

Sancha chulha:

Drive along the road to Egmore untill you have Stella Maries on your left. Just opposite the college you have this restaurant. It is typical punjabi dhabha ambience and food and everything.
