Bad Sagunam ( Bad OMEN )

Bad Sagunam ( Bad OMEN )

If you are going somewhere and see a cat, especially black and if it crosses your path , it is considered to be a very bad omen.

Seeing single Brahmin coming in front of you, Black cat crossing your path are considered very bad omen

Actually, when a brahmin dies, it is the practice on the 11TH day or so (don't know the day no. exactly), of a male brahmin to come to that household, cook his own food and go away after taking some dakshina, but without anybody looking at him or telling him ' bye' or giving him any send off. He comes singly. He is called ottran (ஒற்றன்) or oththa-braahmanan (ஒத்த பிராமணன்) in Tamil, i.e., a singleton-brahmin, and despised.
So, when you happen to meet a singleton-brahmin (he may not be that guy, but any brahmin who is alone when he meets you) on your path, this comment is made, that it is a bad omen.
Now read my Story
I was about to go to Bank, opposite Flat Iyengar Brahmin Mama Came !!

Usually single Brahmin coming before you when you go out is a Bad Sagunam ; you may think it as a mere superstition..

He told me to go back to my Flat and take some water and sit for a few minutes and then go..

I came inside my flat, my Wife told me” Sagunam is not alright” don’t go now..”

I took some water.. and thought of going out to Bank after a 2 minutes..

My wife was telling me to go after ½ hour.. but my Rational mind.. did not accept it..
I told her for going to Bank.. why Sagunam etc ?

And then I went out to lift..

Something in my mind was bothering me…

our Flat was on the 9 th Floor.. so i had to use Lift to go down...

Then I pressed the lift button to go down.. it opened and to my surprise a BLACK CAT was sitting in the Lift inside.. and I entered

I thought of going out and use the other lift for going down.. but the Lift Door Closed now.

( there are two lifts simultaneously operating for the benefits of all residents )

That Black cat was looking at me , I was feeling as if it is laughing at me!! Now me and that Black cat only.. Inside the lift,

I was praying someone from another floor also gets inside the lift but Fate has a different plan it seems..

Suddenly The lift Stopped.. Neither going up or nor going down..

Inside the lift Light also went off!!
Now scary situation..

I felt that the cat is brushing my legs now…!!

The Lift light came on.. I pressed the Alarm button.. OH God..

I was frantically shouting for help from inside the Lift..

Then The Cat started scratching the lift door.. and calling in his own voice!!
Finally after looong 2 minutes, we ( my self and the Black Cat ) heard voices outside the lift..

Some help is coming, but the Cat is looking at me .. and probably laughing too!!

No slokam was coming to my mind..

Finally, In house Technicians opened the Lift Door… The Cat was the first one to jump out,

I came out.. the Durwan greeted me.. and asked me.. why sir , your face is so pale ?

I thought of canceling going to the Bank, but my rational mind was not for that...

I went down, there again I met a single Brahmin Sasthrigal coming to use Lift for going upstairs...

I thought... Am I going to go back home and take water and sit for another 1/2 hour?

I decided against it...

When I was about to go out, one of our co tenant asked me

“Enge Porel “?

(Where are you going?)

Pochuda.. When someone is going out, one should not ask where you are going.

This is our belief...

I told him that I have some urgent work to attend (did not tell him that I am going to Bank... Clever Na? )

He told me don't go through main gate... because there is a Rowdy making nuisance, quarreling with security staff...

I was thinking about Sasthrigal crossing me. When I came down!!

Again my rational mind brushed aside that thought...
I went out by another Gate ..

When i reached Bank.. I was astonished to see that Bank Staff celebrating their Bank day and offered everyone Sweet!!

There was a Lucky dip and every Bank customer was asked to pick up a Lucky Coupon , paying Rs 10/- only

My mind was thinking about Me crossing Single Brahmin, Seeing Black Cat inside the Lift. problem at the Main out gate... but my rational mind brushed aside every thing , and i went for the Lucky dip paying Rs 10/-

I was told to scratch the Paper, to my surprise i was one of the Lucky winner to get a Prize of Rs 1000/-

Oh God... So what made me win this PriZe ?

Black cats weren’t always considered unlucky. In Ancient Egypt, from about 3100BC to 390AD, all cats, including black cats, were considered sacred and worshipped.

The goddess Bastet (or Bast - see image right) was originally depicted as a lioness, fiercely protective and warlike, however her image softened over time and became more strongly associated with domestic cats. She personified the playfulness, grace, affection and cunning of a cat while still being strong powerful like larger felines. Cat worship declined in Egypt following the banning of the cult of Bast in 390 AD. They are still kept as pets and used as pest control. Cats continue to be revered to some extent in Muslim tradition.

· Scotland; a black cat appearing on your doorstep is a sign of prosperity

· England; in the Midlands, a black cat as a wedding present is thought to bring good luck to the bride
· France: In the south of France, black cats are referred to as ‘matagots’ or ‘magician cats’ and according to local superstition, feeding and treating them well will bring good luck to the owner.
· Northern Europe; it is believed that taking in and caring for a black cat can ensure fair weather and safe passage during voyages on the sea
· Asia; owning a black cat is considered lucky
· Italy; if you hear a black cat sneeze, you are in for a streak of good luck
· Japan; black cats are a symbol of good luck – if they see a black cat crossing their path, they say ‘Konichiwa’ and take control of their own luck

I started to Chant "Konichiwa " and everyone in the Bank looked at me puzzled!!!
