The Global Watch Index compiled by Help Age International in respect of economic security, health and other factors for 96 nations regarding highest level of well being for old people, ranked Norway and Sweden as first and second, followed by Switzerland, Canada and Germany in the top five.

While US was eighth, Japan, China, Russia and India occupied 9th, 48th, 68th and 69th positions respectively. Afghanistan ranked last.

Norway, Sweden, Switzerland are all welfare states. Government takes care of you from cradle to grave. Canada and Germany are very close to that model.

If you major worries of income, health and shelter are taken care by government, you are less worried.

It is a country famed for its long dark winter nights and high cost of living – but Norway should also, thanks to a new survey, be recognised as the best place in which to grow old.
Its citizens benefit from decades-old policies designed to provide financial security in old age, plus an efficient public transport system, a strong sense of security and a high level of employment among senior citizens.
