' A life gone after pets' death'

This is the caption of news in the Hindu, Hyderabad edition. The news is a sales girl by name Swarna Latha, staying in a rented house set her ablaze after she was rebuked by her house owner for keeping cats and kittens at home. unable to bear the house owner's anger, the kittens were left outside and they died due to cold and rains.
when the rest of the family went outside Swarna Latha poured kerosene on her body and set herself afire resulting in instant death. The suicide note while claiming no one responsible for her death, says the kittens died due to inhuman attitude of people.

The question is whether such a blind love on pets is necessary?

Tragic event - the loss of the pets as well as the girl.

But, is it not foolish to take one's own life, whatever the cause may be? Blind love on "anything" is undesirale, if such love could cause one to give up their life. Probably the girl could have given the kittens to animal care? Probably she did not know.

But then, would we have said the same thing, if a girl had immolated herself, and were it not kittens, but her kids?

Is the life of a kitten any less than that of a human?

Just musing here.

I agree that any life is not lesser to that of humans. My concern is by doing so ( by sacrificing own life), the life of kitten is not going to be brought back. Every one feels sorry for any loss of life. Thanks.

It is not blind love for pets but the fact is the girl could not control her emotions and committed suicide.

Anyone who has had a pet would know what loving a pet is all about and we would go to any extent to save them from danger.

I once had a dog whom as a puppy witness dog shooters shooting stray dogs..so after that incident whenever he heard even fire crackers he would panic thinking it is a gun shot and go into a panic attack.

Once it was Chinese New Year..(at that time I was 17 years old) and some neighbor blasted some fire crackers and my dog(now an adult dog) panicked and tried to jump into the house by placing his head through the window glass panes.

One of the window glass panes broke and formed a sharp triangular piece and was almost going to pierce his neck when my mother and I realized what was happening. My dad and brothers were not at home.

So I quickly ran out and carried him cos his head was stuck and his body was dangling and I could not allow him to dangle becos that would make the glass piece pierce his throat.

I had no choice but to break the glass piece with my own hands carefully so that he does not get cut in his neck.

Then I managed to calm him down and removed his head from the glass window.

I too sustained cuts from glass but at that time my only concern was saving him.

I cried so much to see him suffer that trauma...cos he could have died if the glass piece had pierced his neck.

So I can understand how this girl felt about her kittens but it is just that she crossed the line of normal limits of sadness.

Hi Renuji,

In general, compared to men, women are more compassionate towards pets. your efforts were daring and laudable in rescuing the dog. In this case this incident didn't happen while rescuing the kitten. She could have saved the kitten by choosing alternative ways..Yes it is the case of crossing normal limits of sadness.
