[h=1]Burglar steals to build temple, lands in jail[/h]
CHENNAI: He raised a temple from the proceeds of more than 100 burglaries carried out over 25 years and prayed to the presiding goddess before every strike. None of this could save V Kamalakannan when a police team caught him on Tuesday during a vehicle check in Anna Nagar.

A court later sent him to jail.

The 47-year-old resident of Kannagi Nagar near Thoraipakkam was travelling in an autorickshaw he stole in Chengalpet a few weeks ago when he was nabbed.

Kamalakannan, whose father Veeraghavan is a retired armed reserve constable, confessed to have been involved in three recent burglaries, including at a spare parts showroom in Ambattur. Police recovered 16 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 50,000 in cash

I thought some famous personality from a particular school of thought in the past had stolen some gold statue of Lord Buddha from a Buddhist temple to build a famous temple and he was praised for his act.

So I guess may be the lawyer defending Kamalakannan can quote this historic event and Kamalakannan might be freed!

After all if someone else can be praised and revered for his act of stealing to build a temple why can't Kamalakannan escape on "religious technical grounds"?

It is improper to drag the name of a revered Aazhwar (Tirumangai Azhwar) in this context. Does the author try to equate or compare Kamalakkannan with Tirumangai Azhwar ? I would advice the author to read the life, teachings and achievements of Tirumangai Azhwar before writing such insulting, insinuating comments.

Dear Sir,

Kindly re- read my post.

I did not mention anyone name in specific.

I merely quoted an incident where the act of taking a property of another without consent was not seen as a crime but praised instead.

I have remained technical as possible as not naming the person concerned nor the school of thought concerned.

My post is not insulting but merely comparing facts and incidents.

As long as I have not named anyone in my post ...technically I myself remain innocent until proving guilty for so called insulting anyone.

Implication and direct black and white evidence are not entirely the same.

Apologies if I had hurt any sentiments in my comparison...that was not my intent.

I leave it to the moderator if my post should be deleted.

I rest my case.
