Can Money Buy True Happiness?

Pranams to all, I am a newbie. Lot of veterans and senior members have replied to this thread. Most are excellent. I need a system and networking facility to avail the benefit of going thro this site and the replies of which throught provoking. That means, we need money to possess a system and network! And the pleasure you derieve out of reading replies, sharing the knowledge, etc is in other words happiness I believe. So, it is quite simple that to derive happiness you need money! What is true happiness? We have read about Kuchelar. Was he experienced happiness? We also read about Pattinathar”s version that Not even an eyeless needle will accompany you in the final journey of life. Money is not a mode for eternal bliss. We read about Adhi Sankar going for Biksha one day to a poor woman’s house. Finding nothing to offer the poor woman offered an Amla fruit. Sankaran got stirred by the selflessness and willingness of the poor woman by offering the only fruit she had for herself. He prayed and recited Kanathara Strotram and there was rain of Golden Amlas at the poor woman’s house from the roof. For giving Biksha to …. we need money!! Above all we live in Kaliyuga. If we are pennyless we can buy only sorrow!! The proveb is no pain no gain. To earn money you will to toil from dawn to dusk. Is there any short cut/by pass/green channel, etc to get happiness without money?

This is the fate of pennyless fellows as per Avvaiyar.

Has the water entered my ship?

In 1923, nine of the wealthiest people in the world met at Chicago 's Edge water Beach Hotel. Their combined wealth, it is estimated, exceeded the wealth of the government of the United States at that time. These men certainly knew how to make a living and accumulate wealth.

Attending the meeting were the following men:
The president of the largest steel company,
The president of the largest utility company,
The president of the largest gas company,
The president of the New York Stock Exchange,
The president of the Bank of International Settlements,
The greatest wheat speculator,
The greatest bear on Wall Street,
The head of the World's greatest monopoly & a member of President Harding's cabinet.
That's a pretty impressive line-up of people by anyone's yardstick.
Yet, 25 years later, where were those nine industrial giants?

Let’s examine what happened to them 25 years later.
1. The President of the then largest steel company (Bethlehem Steel Corp), Charles M Schwab, lived on borrowed capital for five years before he died bankrupt.

2. The President of the then largest gas company, Howard Hubson, went insane.

3. One of the greatest commodity traders (Wheat Speculator) , Arthur Cutten, died insolvent.

4. The then President of the New York Stock Exchange, Richard Whitney, was sent to jail.

5. The member of the US President’s Cabinet (the member of President Harding's cabinet), Albert Fall, was pardoned from jail just to be able to go home and die in peace.

6. The greatest “bear” on Wall Street, Jesse Livermore committed suicide.

7. The President of the then world’s greatest monopoly, Ivar Krueger, committed suicide.

8. The President of the Bank of International Settlement, Leon Fraser, committed Suicide.

9. The president of the largest utility company, Samuel Insull, died penniless!!

What they forgot was how to "make" life while they got busy making money!

Money in itself is not evil; it provides food for the hungry, medicine for the sick, clothes for the needy. Money is only a medium of exchange.

We need two kinds of education:

a) One that teaches us how to make a living and

b) One that teaches us how to live.

There are many of us who are so engrossed in our professional life that we neglect our family, health and social responsibilities. If asked why we do this we would reply that "We are doing it for our family".

Yet, our kids are sleeping when we leave home. They are sleeping when we come back home!! Twenty years later, we’ll turn back, and they’ll all be gone, to pursue their own dreams and their own lives....................................................

Without water, a ship cannot move. The ship needs water, but if the water gets into the ship, the ship will face existential problems. What was once a means of living for the ship will now become a means of destruction?

Similarly we live in time where earning is a necessity but let not the earning enter our hearts, for what was once a means of living will surely become a means of destruction for us as well!!

So take a moment and ask yourself………. Has the water entered my ship? I surely hope it hasn't yet done so!

Is money everything ?

i got it in my email.........

There is no permanent happiness...Have you seen any one always happy...It is transient...Always in state of flux....

Happiness is something that can be acquired by finding meaning and value in life...In his book-World Book of Happiness, Leo Bormans collates research and discoveries of the experts in the field of happiness and list the following as the key ingredients for Happiness

1. Accept what you have (Be contented, modest and do not have too many desires or wants)

2. Enjoy what you do (Do what you enjoy & enjoy what you do is the credo)

3. Live for today (Discard the baggage of past & be positive)

4. Choose happiness (Be flexible in your goals & do not be an idealist...Have realistic goals)

5. Cherish people & relationships

6. Stay busy (Being socially active, it can be in your own hobby)

7. Stop worrying

8. Get organized (Planning your goals & purpose)

9. Think positive (Get rid of bottled up emotions, share and discuss)

As the saying goes that being happy adds years to life and life to the years

Good Analysis sir.

We need money Sir, but too much of anything is good for nothing I hope post No.29 vouches this. The nine commandments in Post No.30 is more practical and fine.
