Hanuman Jayanthi is celebrated to commemorate the birth of. Lord Hanuman. In Maharashtra, Hanuman Jayanthi is celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu Lunar month of Chaitra. However, in some regions, the birthday of Lord Hanuman is celebrated on the 14th day in the dark fortnight of the month of Ashvin. In the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Hanuman Jayanthi is celebrated in the month of Margazhi on the moon new day.

Hanuman Jayanthi is an important festival of Hindus and is celebrated with utmost devotion. Hanuman is worshipped for his unflinching devotion to Lord Rama and worshipping him will help to attain devotion, glory, knowledge, prosperity along with mental and physical strength.

Lord Hanuman - Symbol of Strength and Energy

Lord Hanuman is the incarnation of Lord Shiva and was born to Anjana and Kesari in Anjanagiri Mountain. Hanuman is one of the central characters in Ramayana. He is the icon of unparalleled devotion and selfless service. Humility is his hallmark. He served Ram with pure love and devotion without expecting anything in return. He is the epitome of wise, brave and humble.
Lord Hanuman is known by many different names like Bajrangbali, Pavanputra and Jai Veer Hanuman. He was named as Hanuman after the name of the city of Hanumpur, which was ruled by his maternal uncle Parti Surya. Since his body was hard as a stone, he was called Vajranga. Other popular names of Lord Hanuman include Mahavir" or mightiest hero (because he exhibited several heroic feats), Balibima and Maruti.

Hanuman Jayanthi Celebrations

He is the living embodiment of the power of Ram-Nam. Because of his divine virtues, Goddess Sita blessed him to be Siranjeevi (No Death). That’s why till it is believed that Hanuman is present wherever the Ramayana, the story of Rama is recited. Therefore, on Hanumath Jayanthi, devotees read Ramayana and chant Hanuman Chalisa, Hanuman Ashtak and other prayers to Lord Rama and Hanuman. Many devotees fast on that day. Special Pooja are conducted in Hanuman temples and Lord Rama temples. Hanuman Jayanti is considered very auspicious for wrestlers and bodybuilders. In many villages, bodybuilding and wrestling competitions are organized.

On this day, spiritual discourses are held in Hanuman Temples. Since Lord Hanuman was born at sunrise, devotees wake up before dawn, take bath and recite prayers. According to the legend, Sita was applying sindhoor to her head. When Hanumanji questioned why, Sita replied that this would ensure a long life for her husband. Hanuman then smeared his entire body with sindhoor, in an effort to ensure Rama’s immortality. Since Hanumanji loves sindhoor it is offered as prasadam in Hanuman temples. . Devotees visit temples and apply tilak of sindhoor from the Hanuman idol as it is considered to give luck.

On this auspicious day, devotees chant Lord Rama name as whenever we pray Lord Rama automatic, Lord Hanuman appears there as a devotee and join with us in the prayer and bless us as well. Devotees offer Milagu Vada garland, beetle leaves garland, butter, Poha, Sugar, honey, Panagam, and Neermoor as neivedhyam. Whenever we think of Lord Hanuman, delicious thoughts of Milagu Vada also come together. The Vada that we get in the Hanuman temple as prasadam has a unique taste. The blend of crisp and spice from pepper are divine.

The Relevance of Hanuman Today

Today’s society is full of convulsions, inertia, selfishness, moral and social, spiritual and ethical decay and Lord Hanuman has become the standard bearer of courage, self-control, power, selfless service, bravery, integrity and humility. He has proved that any matters that done with full of commitments and self confidence will end on a successful note. He empowered us with the word “I Can”.

According to the legend, the manifest energy of Lord Vishnu increases from Sri Rama Navami to Hanuman Jayanthi. Hence, people perform as much spiritual practice as possible in this period will get maximum benefit of five superior deities Durga, Ram, Krishna, Shiva and Hanuman.

Chant Lord Name as much as possible on Hanuman Jayanthi and get the blessings of the supreme power.
