I have no sympathy for any religion, Catholicism or Hinduism, but I must admit a modicum of respect for the Pope for what has been advocating since he ascended to the top spot. What a humongous crime by the Christian Priest...The lust and preying of the clergy has not stopped

Now, please realize, there are lacks and lacks of Christian priests in the word, and therefore it is not unusual to find a few perverts in their ranks. The ranks of Hindu priests are infected with such vermins as well. There is lot to blame to be spread among organized religions, Christian, Islam or Hindu, but I, even as a self affirmed atheist, would not blame a religion on the basis of the behavior of a few isolated individuals. We have enough dirt on religion from Hindu Vedanta to popular Buddhism to Christianity and Islam, to indict all religions, no need to pick on aberrations, they exist in all religions.

I agree. The problem is when a religion stipulates avoidance of normal marriage and sex to its priests. Humans have not yet evolved enough to overcome the pull of sex. In hinduism, this aberration is common among the so-called saffron-clad swamijis, a (bad) legacy bequeathed to the hindus by Sankara because he possibly aped Buddha. BTW, this woman-weakness reportedly formed one of the causes for Sankararaman's criticisms against the Kanchi Mutt.
The vaishnavite acharyas, much like the protestants, allow their mutt-heads to lead a normal married life and that should do well in offering blame-free mutts, I feel.
Thinking in a more advanced way, what benefit/s have the religions achieved by creating and sustaining such scandal-plagued priestly orders or mutts? I feel better results could have been achieved by religions by appointing volunteers who would preach the concerned religion/s to people and make all the initial rites to accept voluntary converts into their respective religions, much like the road shows done before floatation of shares

That way I admire some aspects of Islam cos they never advocate celibacy even till ripe old age.I think we have to be practical in life and not force ourselves to be celibate or over rate Urdhava Retas for Sanyasins as the saying goes...Virginity is sometimes becos of lack of opportunity.
.The important thing is being in control. One should not become a slave of desires. If one is in control, there is really no need to require a priest to be celibate. I think the requirement to be celibate is unnatural in most of the cases. The priests by being forced to be celibate at one point or other yield to the temptations and the incident erupts as a scandal. If they are allowed to be normal such things are less likely to happen
vgane, how did you get to "high esteem" from " but I must admit a modicum of respect for the Pope"Since you are holding the Pope in high esteem, let me ask a few questions:
Perhaps to make it convenient for the priests to relieve themselves, I have no idea.1. Why are erotic pictures dotting the walls in Vatican including the bathrooms?
Yes, I hope so too, this pope has shown himself to be qualitatively different from his two immediate predecessors, he is much less hostile on social issues, willing to admit the communists have a point about capitalism being prone to excess, seems genuinely the man of the masses, I like all this. How much change he will be able to make is an open question, remains to be seen, but has shown himself to be up to the challenge. The Matam heads of Brahminism can learn a thing or two from this man to stay relevant.2. Will the Pope act against the paedophiles within the clergy...Will he spill the beans on the misdeameanors of the Priests
