truly you have hitten upon a seldom spoken truth. the youth of today are better informed, knowledgeable, and i would say, more mature than i was in their age - i mean from 16 though 22 - the prime teen years and immediately there after.
ofcourse, we could say, that they have the internet which we did not have. + the cell phone ofcourse.
come to remember, my uncle used to tell my dad his brother, whenever he saw me mouthing off, as something that my dad should not be concerned, as the point a parent having done a good job, is the instant, when the parent understands the son knows more than him...or something like that...
to sum up, i guess, with the 20th century and the rapid growth of knowledge, the shrinking of distances, we are experiencing an explosion of thought ideas and knowledge, and mercifully more and more kids the world over are benefitting. truly a flat world, though not quite !!

I wonder why ladies seems to be let of the hook? not that i'd want it any other way

I have the feeling that today's youngsters have a huge mass of information and familiarity with technology but, when it comes to knowledge and street smartness (by which I mean the ruggedness to face obstacles, bad days, etc.) they are at a disadvantage as compared to my days. In short today's youngsters will be very good at answering quiz programmes but if they have to work in a factory with less than ideal conditions, they will start withering fast. And a life like the one in கள்ளிக்காட்டு இதிஹாஸம், will make them commit suicide at the very first opportunity.
K Sir, The probs with trading classes were always the same everywhere, i beleive, either north or south. Nowadays some forums (elsewhere) are about long-working husbands (as well as wives in the IT field), in this modern-day scenario, so such a situation does not apply to trading classes alone and certainly not gujjus alone. It was not nice for TOI to publish such a news report (as though such things do not happen elsewhere), and have people targetting one linguistic group alone.sangom, amala,
seriously folks, and without any hurt or humiliation intended, i have heard similar comments about gujju men on many several occassions - the reason being that their primary effort and most of their energy expended in making money and everything else takes a distant secondary spot.

Amala, if am not wrong, there is nothing negative ever said about B women, atleast so far always heard positives only. Contrary to what you say, people like to become Veg these days, not the other way around, becoz everyone is concerned for their health with animals eating paper, shit, injecting hormones, and we eating such animals. For B men also, have always heard positives..given a choice everyone i know of wud rent out places to Bs because they are 'disciplined, pay rent on time, hassle-free, maintain house well, etc, etc'...all the negative comments you hear is actually out of angst at being given a low position or outcasted in the very religion to which people belong, and hurt/anger that comes out of it. Its about the ideology, not the people, and the wish that people holding on to the ideology will help change things for a better future for everyone...I believe the same thing is probably said to tambrahms and other south vegetarians especially by NV eating people. once again i feel happy to hear from people like you. my opinion is based not only on my sons and daughter ,but also observing my grand daughters . my 3 yr old pethi will call me in skype clicking on my photo and she is expert in taking photo with mobile phone.she will clear very complicated puzzles in no time when we grown up will take 20 -30 min.the world is for survival of the fittest

Girls and teachers will not respect the guys who are tall and dark are sitting in the back benches.
Let me narrate this incident:
I was writing the public board examination in a school in alwarpet, chennai. The principal was an anglo indian and i was writing my maths exam, she came to me and said see ur paper and write and dont copy. I immediately flung my paper and asked her " If she could prove that i have copied from X or Y or Z". I was tall, had a light meesai and beard. Skin color was our indian color. The others teachers in the hall tried to pacify me and i just left the hall. I never in my life attempted to clear that paper and it still remains. The remark by the principal was unwarranted.

Did you realize the long term consequences of your action? Losing your temper for one second, may have, I don’t know, seriously impacted the progress of your life, on the job front.
Very few times, we are given the opportunity for damage control.
I always tell my children, ‘never to lose their temper’, but to sit back, and plan your repartee. You should believe that time is on your side, and perhaps, if you had waited, you could have responded with greater vehemance at the principal. Also, did you wonder, why he should pick on you? maybe it a was a lifetime lesson, for if you know, that some manner of your actions or behaviour, is viewed unfavourably, you can modify it, to attain your goals. Back Bench theory is the worst in india. It is still there.

I regularly meet a group of iyer guys - They have just finished college and are waiting to join some companies...They have told me the following on seeing iyer girls of today
Never approach for iyer girls for any relationships since majority of them want only non brahmin guys..If an iyer guys speaks of tradition then he is branded as AMBI

He came and asked us and thankfully on that day i was in trichy...My parents took that mama to task ..he was challenged to complain and also get the records from BSNL and if it was proved that it was my house number then my father said he will take me to task... We checked and it was wrong..it was some other number.... poor mama he was blasted in full public view... At the risk of even getting excoriated by some (many), may I say that none of us, nay, no parent in general, can measure or even sense what is passing through their daughters' minds! This is more so when it comes to matters regarding love. And my general impression has been that parents, at least in the average middle and upper middle class tabra homes, do not have that much of a closeness with their daughters as to elicit their mind in this matter (of their love).
But what is there as an open and indisputable fact is that loving, marrying, even eloping - if need be - with non-brahmin boys is more observed in the case of our girls than tabra boys selecting NB girls. This may not be a universal truth but my observation from the maximum area of my acquaintance.
I however, personally feel (though I am an old tabra man virtually at the 'exit gate' - and not a youth who can authoritatively reflect the thoughts and sentiments of the youth today) is that whereas we tabras have willy nilly allowed (or is it conscious and deliberate?) our young girls, all kinds of freedom - education, professional courses, modern dress and make-ups, two wheelers, freedom to be away from home till reasonably late in the night (provided some reason is given for that) and even if we find a known young girl together with her male friends (or guys looking like her friends), we now do not question nor inform the parents. நமக்கேன் வீண் வம்பு? attitude because the girl's parents are sure to first pounce upon us and justify their daughter's innocence.
Due to many such reasons, our tabra girls get more chance to mingle with dashing young NB boys whereas tabra boys are, for some inexplicable reasons, either too docile "ambis" or too out-of-the ordinary rowdy looking characters which will put off any girl, imho. Hence, the elders of the community have to deeply consider how best they can improve the bringing up of their sons. May be some specialist's advice is needed. (I am aware many tabra parents consider their son/s as most perfect, dashing, a darling of the girl classmates and so on, and may object to this, but what is material is how those girls rate them as husband material.)

The reply I am going to give is not really targeted just to you, it is targeted at all the others out here who think that the reason a B girl loves and marries a NB boy is just because he is 'dashing' in looks or because he is really really rich!!!
As far as I have seen (I have seen many love marriages across B and NB and also between NB and NB) the NB boys who the B girls married are neither richer than the girl's family nor they are so.... handsome looking! Infact, there have been so many many people asking what made these B girls marry such a NORMAL person.
1. This is one very very rich girl financially and both socially. Her father is in a top position in Air Force. She married a ST boy who is very dark skinned, not at all good looking (according to what we would normally say), had premature gray hair but studied very hard and got a good degree and a decent job! She was also a very well educated girl and working! In her Uni days and working days she would have very well seen many many B boys who studied hard, got a good degree and a decent job!
So, why did she insist on marrying that ST boy?
I don't think that this a million dollar question and I have already said the reason in this forum in one of my first few naive posts!
2. My Periappa's daughter married a NB (one of the FC NB). The guy is very average looking and not at all what one would say 'Handsome' and his family is very average compared to her family! He was supposed to marry his elder sister's daughter! There was much angst with his elder sister and her husband and that man even commented this to her 'அவன் என்ன பெரிய மன்மதக் ***** இன்னு நீ அவன கல்யாணம் பண்ணிண்ட?'
Ok, so these are the examples and reasons I have seen in my little life. If people tell that B girls marry NB boys based on the money and handsomeness, sorry guys, I have not seen such examples.
