Democracy - Can it deliver the goods to most if not to all the people !!

How can Democracy deliver the goods to most if not to all the people !!

Democracy is an imperfect system but it allows all people to group themselves & propagate/support their views through the elected representatives.

However the challenge is that in the current elections, more than 50% elected have criminal records, probably a record ! so this is a matter of grave concern !!

So any revolution in our democracy can happen only if we educate people to choose the best meritorious candidates across board not based on ideological grouping or any other factors…

In the current motley group of the elected, there is only one person who is the “best fit” to rule & that is Shashi Tharoor! He is highly educated, sophisticated, highly polished, 30+ yrs of Governance experience as UN Secretary General, very balanced & mature views in all the areas, collaborates well with people, takes them along, & most importantly tries to build relationships with everyone incl. Pakistan etc.. without any hate agendas!!

He can possibly lead the country to the next generation with a positive agenda & deliver the goods to people.

Similar to Shashi, one needs to assess & choose the best candidate in every area within the public domain.

That’s all that is required to bring in massive transformation. No need for any disruptive changes, no need for endless fights to change policies, constitution, Lokpal bill etc… !!

To do this, we need all the educated people, media to keep pushing everyone to choose the best candidates in every election!!! Given the reach of mass media today, this can be achieved via consistent campaign across the board.

As its is Shashi Tharoor's wife's death is a mystery and now you want him to lead the country?

Let the court clear his name fully.

Democracy, though not "perfect" can deliver to most of the people - if not everyone - if three conditions exist:

1. A national spirit or patriotism,

2. Complete absence of corruption at least in the top and middle levels of the government,

3. A very independent and impartial judiciary.

The presence of a few elected representatives against whom criminal charges exist but have not been finally passed as verdict of a law court, is not a big issue. Even Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Bose and some others used to have such charges.

In my view Shashi Tharoor will be a very wrong choice; he looks to me like a smooth, suave ioerator, who is not to be relied upon. The Sunanda Pushkar case will show more about him to us.

Good luck to sashi tharoor - educated and suave but unreliable and oily, adulterer and wife beater as confirmed by wife who is no more; let him first clear his name from a possible CBI inquiry. He openly solicited christian voters, but election commission looked the other way. Chidambaram's win in the last election was by by cheating, and the case is yet to be heard; but he has completed his term as FM.

Education and wisdom are different He belongs to a corrupt party and does not quit even though the party has disowned him.

Educated people must learn to discriminate between good people, good political party and the agenda of the party. Main stream media only misinforms and cheats people, as it is driven by money and favouritism. Social media allows interaction of all views, and helps wise people to separate wheat from the chaff, good from the bad, honest from the wicked, genuine from the liers.

Rise of BJP and Modi is a shining example of this phenomenon, despite violent hate campaigns by the media, so called seculars, opportunist ngos and two tongued politicians.

Rajdeep sardesai and india today group gave a censored and incorrect version of the new york incident, and fellow media supported him knowing fully well what happened. When social media uploaded the video of what really transpired, rajdeep had to retract his version.

Shall we elect village panchayat elders as was done in the rajaraja chola times - no illegal activity, no accumulation of wealth by illegal means, no addition to wealth while in office, no reelection after the term is over, and a few more stringent conditions.

Competence & propriety are 2 different things!.Corruption has been over rated in our national discourse !!

Frankly I do not see a problem if a leader delivers the goods to all the people & makes 2 or 3 houses on the side J

How does it matter ?. as long as all the people have a better life.

Take Jaya for example, from what I have heard from many many people, only in Tamil Nadu, no one goes to bed hungry. To me that is terrific work, despite the fact I do NOT agree to socialist policies !. I do not care about the corruption she may have indulged in etc… or the ideology or whether she did it through socialist or capitalist means !!

So called honest leaders elsewhere in the country have not delivered & crores of people are dying in hunger !!

Lets get our priorities straight ! Competence over corruption. People's well being over corruption.. ideology, etc..

As far as Shashi is concerned, lets leave the personal problems to the court… innocent till proven guilty :)

Phaneesh Murthy – who doesn’t know him for his sexual escapades :).. is a brilliant leader. He is the only leader to have taken 2 companies from a few millions to billion dollar corporations !

He took Infosys from 2 million to almost 1 Billion when he was fired. Similarly he took a unknown iGate from a few millions to 1 Billion…

So you can either invest in Phaneesh & create unparalleled wealth OR stick with some honest guy who is incompetent & lose all your money.

Choice is yours !!

Incompetent and honesty do not always go together is not entirely correct.Sometimes when a person is honest, People think that he is incompetent. But the social reforms Gandhi or Vino Bhave no body did. It is not that our kings previously were honest but still all were living happily in chola or pandya or chera rule. It is acutally a very difficult choice to find whether we have to vote for honesty or competency. In some people if honesty is present, it is better to vote for less competent people because it will definitely help in the long run. This is generally good for the moral of the society also.

Vignesh - One should always choose competence (as long as one is not evil) over honesty !

Only competence can deliver results.. for eg, Jaya has definitely delivered results in this term by all accounts on the news & from various quarters.

Not many know - while the entire country is endlessly debating FDI in retail where Walmart/s can come in & buy the farm produce directly from the farmers, etc… Jaya allowed the farmers to sell directly to the end customers in the govt owned yards where the middle men typically operate. So she ensured half the volume is via the middlemen, the other half directly by the farmers.

In the earlier days, the middle men buys the onions @ 10 Rs from the farmers & sells it at 80 Rs. So very few middle men controlled by politicians made fortunes. Now the farmers are selling @ 80 Rs directly tothe end customers, & they are becoming very rich overnight… and many have bought fortuners & hummers …

Seeing this sudden prosperity, Karnataka introduced this in their yards & their farmers are reaping the benefits…

This is the kind of transformation we need – not endless “well articulated” useless debates on pros & cons of FDI in retail.

By the way, the middle men are very upset with Jaya & these traders are aligned to the BJP… and you know who has been opposing FDI in retail…

Moral, Morale, Honesty, Eliminating Corruption, Ideology, principles have no value to 100s of millions who are dying of hunger !!

People are dying of hunger because of the reasons these good principles are not followed for 100 more years. Now for eliminating hunger, we have to follow a person who is morally corrupt (that is not evil) but deliver goods. How long can he deliver is my question? ..Yes in the short run , he can do good...the society degenerates and it will come to a point that these good things are having no values...Therefore we can follow any means, only thieves will be able to deliver good. This is the thing only happening. This is one of the western way of destroying all good things and recreating and giving half backed solution without looking into root of any problem. I agree system can not be 100 % perfect...that does not mean that you should not look for good people at all. After a certain stage even development becomes a burden because more development in the monetary point of view can bring more chaos and evils which we never previously encountered.

Now what can we do ?. can we go back 100 yrs & reset the clock ?. Given the current reality & the dire situation 600+ Million people are in, we need immediate solution. if that solution comes from "Competent people with corruption" there is no choice but to take it. OR we can endlessly debate about ideology & honesty, the 600+ million will die during this time & another 1 Bil+ will take its place...
