Ha Ha Ha....is this shop named after Kushboo?

Right name cos she does look like an Idli..fair and round!

if women know the secret, then why do they keep trying to get there through the ear....talk talk talk, imagine a angiography through the esophagus.

Have you heard the term Karnamruta??

Karnamruta means "Nectar for the ears"...so you see women are feeding men with nectar of words!LOL

Pandiyaraj is famous for his 'muttai kaNNu'.

So, not to worry about 'idli shop' in his name!
If at all any shop, it might be 'muttai shop'!! :decision:

Yes I guess most changes have happened in the last 30 years, earlier, the trend was more or less same, normal diet till one loses ones teeth, and then soft diet, murukku & cheedai soaked in water, godumbai halva all the time,

Although fast food and junk food and the other bad aspects of a western diet have made inroads into the average Indian diet, some healthy foods like oats and salads are also now a part of our staple diet.
the main difference I find between food eaten nowadays and in the past was indeed of attitude. I am terribly conscious of what I eat (it has to be whole meal/unrefinedetc), the oil I use (sunflower/ canola/gingelly) and include plenty of fruit and salads. Fried foods are a definite no-no. Am I healthier than my predecessors? Not a bit! I remember my mum including fried things like bhajjis and vadais and even fresh home-made potato chips, with a sweet dish like ghee-laden kesari every Sunday. We enjoyed our food and never stopped to think whether it was unhealthy or artery clogging. My parents lived to a fairly ripe old age, as did my grandparents.
Nowadays we hear of a young athletic man dropping dead with a heart attack. This was rarely heard of in the past. Maybe it's got to do with the gm foods we eat nowadays. In the past it was more organic.

The above may be one off or stray cases and not representing the majority of people...If you look at the life expectancy for the past 60 years we have improved by 75%...Please see table below

Post # 39 - canola oil is from rapeseed plant which is genetically modified; so I do not use it.

Post # 40 - increase in life expectancy may not be due to food habits or a healthy way of life. Maybe there is better disease prevention and cure, lesser epidemics etc.

Yes & No Auh..

The life expectancy is on account of availability of better medicare, vaccination, immunization, more Private hospitals & better quality Doctors, availability of affordable medicines, education etc...Poor food habits cause lifestyle diseases like Diabetes and Heart attack...So better quality food will help us to improve our well being...If something is on account of genetics then we need to take appropriate corrective action may be medicine or surgery

Better quality food will not help to eliminate lifestyle diseases caused by poor food habits, rather a quality lifestyle and appropriate diet would.

But diabetes and cardio related dangers are on the rise, which do not seem to go well with the data provided in your post. So the increased expectancy must come from some other area... which was my musing in the earlier post.

What we have eliminated are the infectious diseases such as small pox, chicken pox, measles, Typhoid, Tetanus etc which are deadly...Other severe bacterial infections such as TB has been largely contained...All these have improved life expectancy

Yes, and this is what I said earlier. Food habits have only become worse, and foods much more contaminated. So the contribution to increased life expectancy from quality foods or better food habits may be relatively low since other factors play an important part.

Better quality food means home made food freshly prepared where you know the ingredients ...Neither the junk food variety nor the food from a eatery where there is no information about the type of oil used or the ingredients added to increase taste..A better quality food helps you to maintain a better lipid profile which is good for the heart and helps in controlling diabetes better

Modern research runs in this direction. one's body houses most of the disease causing threats - virus, bacteria, cancer cells etc. and one falls prey to a disease when the body's immune system fails to fight the threat. So it is necessary to strengthen the immune system or more important not weaken it. Many of my relatives including my parents lived beyond 80; some with nasty habits of snuff and tobacco. I think good food, active life with physical activities (walking, drawing water from well, lifting and carrying loads, giving body and mind due rest - fasting etc.) do help a lot in improving defence system.
