PJ sir
In delhi ,we used to have cinema in temporay tent structure . ,land being taken from the govt to pitch the tent . on lease basis for a year .
one such tent cinema in early sixties was where bhikaji cama place is in delhi . since my residence was nearby , I have seen all the hindi hits of sixties there . but we did have chairs for sitting though the tariff was very low which we could afford as students,no luxury of AC etc.
in festival season ,films would be shown in tent late evening as part of the celebration in various colonies .in these of course ,we had to sit on the ground and see the movie.oh ,life was simple in those days .

tbs Sir

In those days i used work in the Ticket counter for only 1/2 anna during some evenings.

I enjoyed earning like that.

I used to deliver Telegram by walking to WIMCO Factory from Thiruvothyur Post office as my father was Post master there.

Touring Talkies in South.

SamiKannu.webpWhile discussing about Touring Talkies we have to remember the name of Mr Swamikannu Vincent, pioneer of bringing Touring Talkies to South.

Mr.Swamikannu Vincent, a draughtsman in South Indian Railways bought a projector from a Frenchman M. Du Pont in Tiruchirapalli for Rs.2000/=, and set up a Touring Cinema called "Edisons's Cinematography" in 1905 and became the first exhibitor in South. It seems he had taken his Touring Cinema all around the Country as far as Bombay, Peshawar, Lahore and even Rangoon, apart from many places in South like Madras and Trivandrum.

The name of Mr.Swamikannu Vincent of Coimbatore is enshrined in the History of cinema for posterity.
