hi

the temple is NOT MALL.....nothing wrong....in the ARMY....we have four dress codes everyday....if u want serve army....u have to

follow dress codes....same way ...if u want to go to temple...follow the temple dress rules....ONLY HINDUS GRANTED FOR EVERYTHING.....NOT

IN GURUDWARAS/CHURCH/MOSQUE......too much freedom in hinduism....so govt/court has to implement the rules...

But temple is not army either, right? What has even having the uniform dress code in the army achieved? The armies of all nations have been guilty of atrocities and rape. Same is true for all police forces.

You can't change the person, simply by changing what they wear.

You do have a point. Temple is also a social place, so a decorum is expected. In totally spiritual place dress does not matter.

hi''

it means 2 piece dress are also allowed in temples....means for females....just top/bottom totally 1 meter

cloth....komanam for gents......

BTW what is so difficult about following a dress code?

After all we follow dress codes when we go for formal functions,work.etc.

Just to add in Malaysia we have dress codes when we enter government offices/departments and even government hospitals for any dealings.

The dress code is no legs exposed,no sleeveless, flip flop slippers are not encouraged and sometimes not allowed.
Jeans at times are not allowed when clients visit certain government departments.

Those who want to visit patients in hospital or accompanying a sick person should also follow the above dress code.

If the dress code is not adhered to one is not allowed entry into any government department/hospital and one has to cover themselves with a Sarong provided by the departments.

Many were not happy with these rules cos recently a small kid had delayed treatment for his injury cos his mum and aunt who accompanied him were dressed in shorts..the mum and aunt were refused entry unless they covered up with the sarong provided.

Weird..but true!

I think the point is that there is no "reasonable dress code" which is acceptable to everybody. It is very cultural and local.

I do understand Prasadji's point about decorum. But denying a person medical attention because of what they are wearing is completely awful.

If you see old movies you will see that gambler's had to wear tuxedos when visiting a casino. Think of it: they are just trying to dress so that their activity seems respectable.

I. But denying a person medical attention because of what they are wearing is completely awful.

.

It was not the patient that was denied medical treatment but it was the patient's mum and aunt who were told to cover up and that caused the delay in treatment.

Yes...whatever said and done its bad cos the patient was a kid and had an injury..it was a big issue out here.

The temples in Kanyakumari districts like the one at Suchindrum, Thiruvattar etc. don’t allow men with pants &shirt. They allow men with mundus / dhothis and topless.
I hope after 01.01.2015, the temples will have to permit people wearing pants and shirts.

or
they are exempted from this rule as they are under devasthanams of erstwhile Travancore.

hi

generally KK district follow kerala rules in many temples...even some nellai disticts too....due to erstwhile Travancore maharaja

system...

In the male anatomy there is no scope for any cover up which can be suggestive to make poets write reams of poetry. It is just plain vanilla. Nothing spicy. So thoppai or no thoppai, male anatomy does not invite a second look even if it is six pack abs. But with female anatomy the story is completely different. Just a choli made some one write choli ke peeche kya hai and the world went ga ga over that song. LOL.

Wrong!

Its becos poets in the past were mostly males.

There is so much to describe about the male anatomy...piece by piece...starting from head to toe with a scalpel.

BTW the "Sexy and I know it" song is all about barely clad males and the song made everyone go wiggle wiggle wiggle!LOL

Dear Vaagmi ji,

Are you telling me this does not invite a 2nd look?

Ramanuja codified certain procedures in temple administration and rituals which is followed in vaishnava temples Here dress code is strictly followed but R code is not strictly enforced! There is no Garuda here - When Ramanuja felt he should be in Tirugurungudi he was airlifted by Gurada in a wink to that place and hence he is not present in this temple! There is no external visible signs of vaishnavism like namam etc on the walls or the foreheads of priests and people visiting this temple There is a vinayagar sannidhi which is as popular as Padmanabha You will see a Lingam Hooded by Pamanabhas Hand!

But what happens in Tirugurungudi is different One Huge Padmanabha is seen through 3 gates in TVM But here you have three Nammbis நின்ற இருந்த கடந்த with in the temple and additionally you மலை & பாற்கடல் nearby totalling to 5 You can seem Nammam painted in every available place including the fore head chest ect of priests and others. There was an attempt to shift the Mahendragirinathar - Sivan sannidhi from its original place! தம்பி The problems here is not the dress code for visiting அம்பிs but with presiding நம்பிs

May be males and females are wired differently.

I wonder what the poet would have written as lyrics if he were not a male in the following song. Listen to it carefully.

You can try your hand in poetry if you have the inclination. LOL.

This is a welcome decision by the High Court. All religions have dress codes enforced in the places of worship. Islam directs coving of head and does not allow Men and Women mix in Mosques, Sikhs have to cover their heads in Gurudwara, Christians dress elegantly to visit Church.

This reminds me of my younger days. My mother was particular that we should wear proper dress while visiting Temples, and never go with empty hand. She would dress herself in traditional Brahmin smartha style, and tidy her hair neatly and place flowers in it. She would take a pooja basket with flower garland, Thamboolam, fruits, coconut, packets of Agarbathi and Campher. Also a small bottle containg Oil/ghee and few cotton wicks for lamps. If we visit famous Temples, she would purchase Pooja Materials sold outside the Temple.

That was our tradition. Till the previous generation Hindu males of all castes were wearing white dhothi in kacham style. It is unfortunate now Courts have to do course correction of our tradition.

Traditions are there to regulate the individuals to live properly in a community. They must be respected for orderly living.
