Lalu Prasad Yadav is all set to send his wife Rabri Devi and daughter Misa to Rajyasabha from Bihar as per reports. Reports further says that he needs to stay in Delhi very often and needs proper bunglow in Delhi so as to comfort his frequent stay in Delhi being the main reason behind promoting his family in national politics.Two of his sons already are ministers in Bihar and holding many important portfolios. Who knows the time will come when he himself will try to become PM once the ban to contest elections are over.

Dynasty politics prevails everywhere. In Tamilnadu also, almost all the parties promote Dynasty politics. If any leader who do not have any son / daughter, they promote foster sons.

We INDIANS have stronger family values and pretend to cherish them! People were vociferous against dynastic rule when Nehru was at the helm and again at Indira Gandhi. Today it is tacitly accepted as a way of political life. If you do not agree on any other thing, you should accept now that Nehru was a "visionary"! Unfortunately, there had been bachelor PMs. ModiJi is not a visionary. Had he been one he would not have estranged from his wife. Moral: Anything can happen anytime.

It is not strong family values which encourage dynasty politics. Politics brings money, fame and everything. It is quite natural that an established politician pass on the goodwill and fame earned to his/her wards to retain as far as it is possible.

iT czars like Azim premji, rahul bajaj of bajaj group, Dhirubhai ambani groomed their sons for taking over their business .

Film stars do the same with their kids.

Why single out politicians alone?

Even abroad Say US, bush,kennedy ,etc families groom some from their family for politics . In canada , wehave trudeau s son becoming PM.

A few indians who participated in freedom struggle after independance continued to be selfless and continued to serve the country without any reward.

That does not mean that all politicians should follow their path.

Why act idealistic?

How many brahmins encourage their children when they want to do something differently than taking up a monthly paid job ?

They cannot aspire to become what they really want mostly and most are forced to follow the tried path of university education and opt for four/ five figure salaries.

Many siblings of politicians are also forced to become politicians to take care of the party their parents have nurtured. Whether it is orissa , himachal,punjab,or

kashmir or tamilnadu the political reins are handed over to the next generation.

I do not see anything wrong in that.

Analysis by The Hindu shows that at least 130 of our MPs are from political families

At least one quarter of MPswho took oath in elected to the 16th Lok Sabha last week are from political families, The Hindu’s analysis of family background of new MPs shows.

This tendency towards hereditary politics is particularly sharp among younger MPs.

Among the major political parties, the Samajwadi Party is now a 100 per cent family-ruled party; all five of its MPs are relatives of party chief Mulayam Singh.

The Telugu Desam Party comes next with 44 per cent of its MPs being close relatives of politicians.

The Congress, led by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi who are both members of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, follows closely behind as does the Biju Janata Dal.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Khajagam has the lowest proportion of hereditary politicians; just two of its new MPs are the sons of MLAs.

P.S. This may remind one about historian Patrick French who wrote in his 2011 book India. A Portrait that if the trend continued, India could slide back to the days when it was ruled by a “hereditary monarch and assorted Indian princelings”.

New Research by political scientist Kanchan Chandra of New York University actually points to a fall in the number of dynastic MPs in the new parliament formed after General Election in 2014.

In the recent Parliament elections 24% of India's new cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is dynastic in nature, as against 36% in the previous Congress-led government.

Nehrus, (Raj) Kapoors, a very few carnatic musicians, etc. Thank god, otherwise the world would have become duller place. Other than family ties, name and reputation, there could be an ulterior motive to safeguard against bad deeds.

Perform or perish policy exists in every field and politics is also no exception. Unless they perform, the successors have failed to achieve the stardom their predecossors used to enjoy. Plenty of examples available in Indian politics itself. Sons of N T Ramarao, Son of former Kerala chief minister, K Karunakaran, what more, even Rahul Gandhi, also struggling to get some where near the limelight, their predecessors used to be once. So performance matters in Politics as well.
