Elder Sister is also another Mother ;
அக்கா என்பவள் தாயின் மறு வடிவம்!
My Elder Sister is older than me..by 10 Years..
She littrally was like my mother taking care of all younger brothers..
When I was 7 years old, in 1946, Upanayanam was performed along with 3 of my elder brothers.
It was a simple function in the house itself, attended by uncles, Chihappas , Chithis, Grand Parents, Aunt, ..
In those days , every house had Mitham, Thavaram, Rezhi , Veranda , Kollapuram, Kinaru, Vali , For washing A Big Stone .. in the end of the house open Toilets..
(மித்தம், தாழ்வாரம், ரேழி, கிணறு , வாலி, துவைக்க கல் , )
As Mitham is bog, we had upanayanam there..
None of could hold our Vesti ( வேஷ்டி ) Akka used to come again and again tie it properly..
Each one of us got kalana ( காலணா) and that was a big money in those days..
One Rupee in those days was equal to 16 Kalanas..
During rainy times, We used to enjoy drenching ourselves in Mitham itself..
Patti used to shout at us, but our elder sister was with us, as she was also enjoying and getting drenched in rain Water,,
Most of the times, we used take showers near the WELL itself, Akka used to pour water drawing water from the WELL ..கிணறு.
Only soap in those days was a big LIFEBUOY Soap.. and only Tooth Powder in those days
நஞ்சன் குடு பல்பொடி…. No Toothbrush etc..
Night everyone had only Buttermilk mixed Rice only. We used to sit around our Akka, and she used to tell stories and give மோர் சாதம் ஒரு பிடி.
Night time we all used to sleep on the Floor on Mat, and Akka used to tell stories and make us sleep, and she used to go and read her School books in Lantern Lights.
If ever I am reborn, I would like my akka to be my elder sister in my next Birth also..
