It was many many moons ago. There was a turn table and a collection of records ( belonged to my elder sister). This very young teen ager was a new addition to the household. She was not exposed to English songs. Most of the albums had printed lyrics too.... she loved listening to this song and laugh!... you see, she did not understand the concept of money at that time! That was my wife many moons ago....

This was when Raghy was young as a teen ager. He was working in a small compamy...... Raghy was in the 9 AM to to 5 PM shift ( what a shift! All the girls from the college to come out!.... He came back at 7.00 PM.. He was listening to Sri Lanka Broadcosting Corparations in his transister.

Many many moons ago. During my childhood I used to listen to songs or All India Radio in an old Resa radio. Often the radio would become sick and would be coughing. Father got sick and tired of missing his carnatic concerts. So, a transistor radio was bought. It could pick up somany stations! Browsing shortwave radio at night time ( of course when father was not around) was thrilling to me! I started 'inventing' radio stations like Voice of America, BBC ( I just loved the news from BBC. The news reader would start.. this is London!.. followed by news!) and Srilankan Broadcosting Corporation.... Also introduction to English songs.....

One such a song.. an ever green melody......

Them days we didn't 'ave you tube or lyrics on the web. A body didn't see web other than in the loft anyways... I heard this here song and I loved it. Had to get it by rote ( anything I loved, I got it by rote them days!..)

My friend's elder sister was studying short hand... so, the following week hung at his place with the transistor waiting for this song.. plan was ....I somehow begged her to take that song in short hand and transcribe it for me... great plan.... we were all waiting... that song was played in the radio too... she was sitting quietly.... at the end said she couldn't follow the accent!

I don't give up easy..... in the technical school came across these Ango-Indian friends... asked them for the words... presto! had that song in the following week!

One of my friends used to go nuts for this song ( presently working in qatar) .. there were somany Sundays in the early 80's I used to sing this song for him.....
