Another .sunday again. A time for reflections

I read an interesting post by Paul Coelho on frogs. quoting below

"Some biological studies show that frogs placed in a receipient containing the same water as its lake stayed motionless during the whole time the liquid was being

heated. Frogs do not react to the gradual increase in temperature [environment changes] and die swollen and happy when the water boils

On the other hand another frog tossed into the same receipient with the water boiling, immediately jumps out. A bit scorched, alive none the less"

"we are like boiling frogs. We do not notice changes. we feel everything is fine.or what is wrong will go away -it is only a matter of time. we stay inour stable in our

apathy.floating in the water getting hotter and hotter and end up dying without noticing the changes all around us

In real life it is better to jump out a bit scorched but alive and ready to act"

How true . most of us after a particular age become status quo ists , becoming blind to changes around us until a bad event strikes which could have been easily

avoided by timely action. most senior citizens do not take control of their lives and plan ahead . they become spectators as others around them move and reduce

them to non entities

They are wise beyond words and obey the divine gospels
"Keval Saakshi bhava!" and "Be! Don't become!!"

Frog is a cold blooded animal. :frog:

It may not notice the slight increase in the temperature

or may even enjoy the hot Jacuzzi for free but

getting boiled in full is hard to digest! :suspicious:

(I mean the fact and not the boiled frog!)

I fully agree..we need to jump into action when its needed at times we have to be "harsh" when softness does not work.

I used to go to a particular shopping mall with to get groceries and many times I noted trolleys were not there.

The trolleys were locked in the car park and no worker seem to be bothered to take them up.

Then I brought this up to the manager in charge and he told me to use a basket instead but I told him when I go shopping alone and buy stuff I need a trolley to take the items to the car which is parked far.

I also asked him politely when they trolleys are in the car park how come workers do not take it up like other stores and he did not give an answer. He seemed not bothered.

So I wrote a real nasty letter to their company and emailed it.

Then the next week I saw all trolleys up in the store and workers now bring up the trolleys regularly.

My mother thought I was causing trouble where ever I went cos she said others just "suffered" and did not mind using the basket while shopping and struggle to the car!

I told her at least my nasty email worked and now everyone can enjoy shopping easily.

Even in my gym sometime back they were trying to save electricity by not switching on the AC in the early morning and it was really stuffy working out in a closed room with no window and as usual no one complained when it was so hot.At times one could feel dizzy when ventilation is poor.

Then I asked the management why the AC was no on and they were giving excuses...so I told them I want to write in a complain and they told me they had no complain system.

I asked them for their email and they rudely said they wont give me.

So I told them in that case I want them to process my termination of my membership and I quit right away. I would join another gym..its sometimes better to join a smaller less famous gym which is what I am going to do.

So there you go..I wont sit quietly and suffer if I am not getting what is due for me.

Great renukaji

we need lot many more like you

senior citizen can learn a lot from youngsters like you

In govt we have some ways of tackling those who do not do what is required of them

we tell them that "appropriate action will be taken '. these are basically cases where no action can be taken as per rules or we do not know

what rules to invoke. The erring fellow would be wondering about the action to be taken against him and change his ways. many do not know Appropriate action means 'no

action or unable to act under any rule'.lol

jokes apart. senior citizen need to be persons of action and not sitting ducks for others to take potshots at.

also those who act normally succeed in their endeavours and set examples for others to emulate

Doctor Mam,

I have lot of such incidents which happens in my everyday life. I never sit quiet and watch. I will simply swing into action and shall ensure desirable change.

One such incident was that long back, when I was living at Santhome, I booked for Gas a fortnight back and was waiting for the cylinder. While so, one day, the vendor was found supplying a Cylinder for my neighbor who has just booked for it a week back. I immediately rushed to the Dealer and complained how come my neighbor got the cylinder supplied before me when I am still on the waiting list. They checked up the Register and told me that cylinder was already supplied to me and some one has acknowledged. I saw the Register and took it to the nearest xerox shop and took copy of it and sent a complaint with authenticated evidences. This has resulted in the Gas Company issuing a Show Cause Notice to the dealer. From that day onwards, all those named as Balasubramani used to receive a VIP treatment by this dealer.

Both in Office and in my locality though people term me as a fighting cock, I love to be a pugnacious pious man practicing ‘Anbe Sivam’ with all.

Good for you. If you accept status quo at all time what is the use, that is like being dead. So have a questioning mind, even in religious matters be a Natcketa. Instead of following Useless "traditions", get educated and spread knowledge. Like REnikaji in one of her post pointed out in the Dog Marriage thread, that we should not perpetuate ignorance.

Great thinkers and social engineers did not accept Status quo. Shankaracharya had no reason to travel around the country educating people.
Ignorance should be dissipated, if you can do your part do it.

Dear Sir,

Good to know this ..keep it up.

Now when I go to that grocery store in the mall..I see old people taking trolleys to the car park with ease unlike last time when everyone was suffering to carry the load to the car.

Even last month I noticed in the morning when I went to work burst water pipes near my clinic and the neighbouring shops.

I called up water works right away and came and repaired all the taps.

I did not want to see water flowing to waste.

Even 2 months back the traffic light near my house was malfunctioning ..it was changing to red too soon and causing a jam in the morning.

After 2 days I complained and it was repaired within a few hours.

If we all take action as soon as possible..life will be better even for everyone else.

I am not talking of taking action for public good alone

there are so many senior citizens who do not care for themselves and who are totally not conscious of happenings around them

they carry on accepting the slow deterioration in their physical and economic well being. their health slowly gives way and they have minor ailments they do not do

anything about until it transforms into a major one calling for hospitalisation and sometimes death. they see their life long savings getting eroded by inflation and high cost

of living and they try live on less and less leading to malnutrition . friends and relatives slowly drop out or go to heavan and they attend funerals mechanically .

there is a feeling that they have become totally complacent or stop caring what is happening to them.

if one analyses there is no reason in many cases that they should be like the frogs slowly facing more heat and not responding.

they can take alternative action opting for a better life with the resources they have for better living by thinking about the issues the are faced with and act sensibly

when will wisdom dawn on them?

You have to remember to whom this was conveyed and with what intent.I thought it was wise to say to that person concerned

Not much is to be gained worrying to distraction over some condition which leads to additional mental stress. when test numbers are almost OK . it is nice sometimes not to

overdo things if the margins of numbers are OK taking into account ones age. some get paranoid and want perfection in test numbers . they do not take into account

margin of error in lab testing. Now I feel happy that the member transacts with many more of us sharing her wisdom and experience

Recently we had a major problem with a tenant at my dad's place in Chennai..He entered the place by promising the advance within 1 week as he had to get some cheque..The week became 1 month, 2 months, 3 months...Now my dad fell mentally upset..He never had any problems like with any other tenant..This youngster was cheating him (an octogenarian) and whenever my father asked him, he would say " Kalangarthale suprbatham pada vanduthenngala"...

We had to contact a neighbour with political connections...With great difficulty we got him to pay the balance rent and vacate..

A lesson for us...Act fast before an issue becomes big!

one has to be careful in choice of tenants

for reasons of security of property .I give to northerners [they have no interest to stay in chennai as such. so property is safe].singles [they will return property when you

want it] and from IT and MNCs so no money related issues

ultimately tenant amaivadallam theivam kodutha varam.

TTK has a company which offers tenant management services worth trying

After some issues with the resident welfare association , I have given my flat to professional managers for management

In our colony we have three kinds of people living here.

The owners, the tenants and the ilavasa iNaippugaL!

Strangely it the ilavasa INaippu that makes a lot of noise everywhere for everything.

Trying infuse fear in the heart of anyone who dares to talk about or against her??? :noidea:
