Gender inequality since...
women climb on these trees better than men
with the modified peddle ladder
(I do not know its scientific name)
and they handle emergencies better than men.
Recently there was an article in Thugalk how a 47 year old woman
managed not to fell off a coconut tree and had her cell phone and
enough presence of mind to call the fire fighter to come and help her.:clap2:

Some additional info. about this photo....
She belongs to Kerala and was among the first batch of women (about 15 nos.) trained for pollination of coconut flowers by the Coconut Board of India.
Coconut trees bear both male and female flowers. The climber sees to it so that only female flowers pollinate to become a nut. They shall put a plastic cover over the male flowers. Male coconut flowers do not bear fruits and it is a waste of money in coconut farming. Pollination is the act of increasing their population by the trees, which is done by the flowers.

Thrissur: The Agricultural Research Station under Kerala Agricultural University has developed a coconut climbing machine.
The device ‘Kera Suraksha Coconut Climbing Machine' will make coconut climbing an easy task, says U. Jaikumaran, head
of the research centre. The machine, made of stainless steel, consists of two parts, a seat unit and a pedal unit. It is fitted
to the tree with the seat unit above the pedal unit. By standing on the pedal unit, the seat unit can be slid up or down.
Mr. Jaikumaran claims that a trained person will take only 90 seconds to climb a coconut tree of 12 m height.
“He can climb up or down the tree by operating the seat and pedal units alternatively. A lynch pin harnessing method is
adopted for developing the device. This enables easy assembling and dismantling,” he said. The complete set includes a coat
and safety belts for the climbers apart from a face shield and hand gloves. The cost of the device is Rs.7,000.
The research centre will provide one-week training programme on tree climbing, cleaning of crowns and cross pollination
techniques. The first training program will be held in February.

Let me introduce the famous lady mridhangam artist!
Lady mridangam artistes – that too of high standard -- are rare. And, if any artiste established herself as a top class
mridanga vidushi and bagged innumerable honours and awards, including the prestigious Kendra Sangeet Natak Award
from the President, she deserves special mention. Dandamudi Sumathi Ramamohan Rao, who received the Kendra Sangeet
Natak award from President Pratibha Patil for the year2009 last week, hails from a family of musicians and her first guru was
her father Late Nidumolu Raghavaiah. She received her advanced training from renowned vidwan and husband Dandamudi
Ramamohan Rao, who was an A-Top grade artiste of Akashvani. Sumathi has many other achievements to her credit as well.
The celebrated couple became the only top grade mridangam duo in the country. Sumathi got herself elevated to the level of
a solo mridangam performer by sheer dint of practice under the guidance of her husband.
The Laya Vinyasam concert given by her in Bhopal in 1996, her participation Tala Vadyotsavam in Bangalore along with her
husband and her accompaniment with Padma Vibhushan Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna were fitting testimony to her
talent. Sumathi received the `Best Mridangist Award' thrice from the Madras Music Academy and was also conferred with
titles like `Mridanga Siromani', `Mridanga Laya Vidya Sagara, `Sunada Sudha Nidhi'. The Kendra Sangeet Natak Academy
award was the latest feather in her cap.

Now.......... A famous Lady ghatam artist:
Sukanya Ramgopal, the only female artist who can play the ghatam, was conferred the award Laya Vadya Chathura jointly by
Anna Nagar Music Circle Trust and Sri Sadhguru Sangeetha Vidyalaya. It was apt that her guru, veteran Vikku Vinayakaram,
presented the award. Vinayakaram, who was one of the chief guests, recalled how his father Sri Harihara Sharma was
instrumental in encouraging Sukanya during her initial stages and also praised the positive role played by her husband
Ramgopal in assisting in full measure in the growth and development of Sukanya.
Nadopasana Srinivasan, the other chief guest, said that the award was in recognition of the hard work that has been done by
Sukanya whose single-minded devotion to her art had won her laurels. Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh, veena player, said that
Sukanya who wielded the Manamadurai ghatam, was brave enough to make inroads into this male-dominated percussion
segment of our music and said that she had accompanied all senior musicians.
Sukanya in her acceptance speech thanked the organisations for choosing her and specially thanked Padmavathy
Ananthagopalan, veena vidhushi, for selecting a percussionist for the award. She thanked her parents, her in-laws and her
husband, without whose support she would not have attained this position of fame, and also thanked her co-artistes for their
unfailing cooperation.

I hope she waited for the fire dept to answer the phone and not just give the department a MISSED CALLED.
I recently saw a Tamil movie where the comedian was saying that most girls/woman save money/phone bills by giving Missed Call to their boyfriends or husbands and their boyfriends/husbands call them back!
Then in the next scene..a house catches fire and a woman said she will call the Fire Department.
But she made only a Missed Call and expected the Fire Department to call her back!LOL
So ladies..if you are in the habit of making MISSED CALLS..do not missed call the following numbers:
1)Police Station.
2)Fire Department
3)Hospital

You see it is easier to type Sir for males in forum cos many males have usernames that are like an alphabet soup or some numerology data base..it is easier to remember female names in forum cos most females use their real names.

Dear Sir,
SIR... just takes 3 alphabets to type.
So that's why I am typing the word Sir
To type TVK...I need to read the name before I type it.
Typing the word SIR is a reflex..that means I do not have to think much.
I do not like straining my mind too much to think!LOL
BTW why does any male member need to be scared of female members?
Female members in forum are a sweet lot...why fear anyone?LOL!

Climbing the Coconut Tree is not a big deal, but getting a Scorpion sting is painful.Coconut trees abound with insects like scorpions and many of them go helter skelter when the branches are cut. A scorpion sting can be excruciatingly painful, poisonous and sometimes fatal. A free fall from a tree can paralyze the person for life.

The rhinoceros beetle is found in coconut trees. When I was preparing for my math exam at Coimbatore, eight of
these beetles flew inside through the window! I was so angry that I hit and killed all of them with my slippers! WOW!
I can't imagine doing such feats now! :faint2:

How come you did that? It is not like scorpion or ugly cockroaches; you could have just driven them all by using broomstick.
