Bengaluru, April 16: In a "global first", Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium has installed a 400KW rooftop photovoltaic solar power system, which was inaugurated on Wednesday (April 15). The solar power system was inaugurated by Karnataka's Energey Minister DK Shivakumar in the presence of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials.
"KSCA, as a green initiative, has successfully installed a rooftop photovoltaic solar power system at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium," former India batsman KSCA secretary Brijesh Patel said. "It is a matter of great pride for us for the state of Karnataka that the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is the first cricket stadium in the world to install a solar power plant," he added. According to KSCA officials, the solar power plant installed on the Eastern stand roof, can generate 5.9 lakhs units per year which is sufficient to power 200 AEH (All Electric Homes) using 3KW.
With this latest green initiative from KSCA, the stadium's 40 per cent of energy is expected to be supplied from solar power.
