[h=1]Report: Google’s Plans for your Car are much more bigger than Android Auto[/h] December 19, 2014 Kishore Ganesh
With the Smartphone Market pretty much saturated, and with most having settled on a Device, Companies like Google and Apple are looking beyond them, and are exploring new avenues to win new customers.
At Google I/O 2014, Google announced Android Auto, which was its move against Apple to conquer the Automobile Market. It, just like Apple’s Carplay, didn’t replace your Car’s OS, and instead ran alongside it.
It didn’t really depend on your Car, and instead ran off your Smartphone’s guts.
According to a report by Reuters, Google’s Automobile Plans are much bigger than Android Auto. It seems Google isn’t content with Android Auto essentially being an Add-On on top of the Car’s Infotainment Systems; Google wants Android to be the sole Operating System on your Car.
This Project is called the Android M Project, and aims to replace your Car’s Infotainment Systems with Android, and aims to do all of this without relying on your Smartphone.
This means that Android M will be able to be much more closely integrated with your Car, and will be able to receive indepth Information. You will be able to Play Music, Start Navigation, etc, all without your Smartphone.
We don’t know yet when Google would officially Announce the Project, but Reuters expects that it will be revealed within a year or two.
Although Google has signed up many Manufacturers for Android Auto, we doubt that they would be willing to let go of their in-house Operating Systems in favour of Google’s offerins.
Nevertheless, we think this is a very interesting move by Google, and if Google is able to sign up some Manufacturers, then Android can dominate Automobiles just like it is dominating over the Smartphone Market right now. Google’s Dream of Android Everywhere can finally come true.
What do you think? Would the Android M Project be successful? Will Google be Able to sign up Car Companies?
