Hello Everybody!
I am a 50 yr old married woman with two grown up children. I reside in Mumbai. I have joined this forum to understand our traditions a little deeper. I had been working for 24 yrs before I quit. During that period my focus was on raising my children, managing the house with the help of maids and growing in my career. Fortunately I have a very understanding husband. My in laws too did not put pressure on me to follow every little tradition esp during festivals. I feel strongly for working women who have to bear the burden of unrealistic expectations from husband, in laws and sometimes their own parents. Even though women have stepped out of the house and are working shoulder to shoulder with men, most men are yet to shed their inhibitions and help in household chores. This is not to say that if a woman is a home maker she should carry the burden of all the household chores on her shoulder only. Out of my own interest now I want to delve deeper into our rich culture and heritage and widen my horizons.
