How to find my sect?

Are you aware of any extended relatives from your father's side? Also, check the photos of your parents' wedding or first birthday as there may be clues.

Good Luck with your search!

I was born in Chennai and my father's roots are in Tanjore (Nannilam), although he was also born in Chennai. and my mother's roots are in Palghat. I am trying to find out which Iyer sect do I fall under - vadama/vathima/brahacharanam etc. How can I find this? Unfortunately, my parents are no longer alive and neither are their siblings to find this.
One of my colleagues, who is no more now, hailed from Nannilam and belonged to Vathima sect, whereas film director late K Balachander, who belonged to Ashtasahasram sect, also from Nannilam. Sect may be identified only from surviving relatives or sambradayam being followed and in some cases name.
